Poor Job by GAI

I was looking at eBay and noted this "signed" Cal Ripken Jr. bat authenticated by GAI...This forgery will be removed by eBay by tomorrow morning, but this is just one example of many, how they have allowed many forgeries to enter the market

Successful dealings with Wcsportscards94558, EagleEyeKid, SamsGirl214, Volver, DwayneDrain, Oaksey25, Griffins, Cardfan07, Etc.

<< <i>I know nothing about ripken autographs so forgive my ignorance. t how is it known this is a forgery by that crappy photo? >>
photo looked pretty good to me; the 'autograph' didn't
GAI is desperate and will do anything for money. Baker should be in jail for his fraud

<< <i>I remember when I said much less about Baker and got jumped.

jumped by whom?......shouldn't have happened...love the GAI apologists on this board
<< <i>Why are you assuming that the bat knob pictured is from the same bat as in the picture with the bad fake autograph?
Nick >>
dont you think the eBay eventual buyer would have found this out if it had't been removed beforehand?..."what if" this and "what if" that....
i have a question...."what if" GAI was "authenicating" forgeries?
What if others from the ebay community report fakes to ebay but dont have the "clout" to have them removed?

There are authentic autographs that don't pass, as it just depends on who is doing the authenticating.
Some know their stuff a little better than the other.
Now when it comes to GAI, there are countless times they have made errors.
Do you see how many fake Mantle, Aaron, Dimaggio, and Williams autographs that are authenticated by GAI are in the market?
Do you notice how cheap these go for compared to an authentic?

Authentication companies are far from perfect, but PSA/DNA and JSA are doing a real good job.
GAI is not, and thats why you can buy "autographs" that are "authenticated" by them for cheap.......
As for other fakes on ebay that get reported, if the person does a PSA/DNA quick opinion on it, and it comes back questionable, usually the item will be removed.
Now if you have total faith in GAI authenticated items, then by all means invest in them. But in the future when you go to sell them, don't be shocked when a major auction house laughs at you.
Just like a lot of you wouldn't trust a card graded by GAI, it's the same on the autograph side.

Based on that, sellers would never put in pictures of items they don't own.
There are lots of varieties of eBay scams that are based on a picture of something the seller doesn't have.
Examples:
"win" with your own shill, and then offer the highest real bidder the chance to purchase an identical item off eBay by check or m.o.
package of no value sent to someone else in the same zip code with delivery confirmation
(this one would be very hard to pull with a bat) empty package with slit in it but fully insured
take the money and run before the buyer receives the package
