Just Purchased My Dream Card

Just got off the phone with Steve Hart (BBCE) and took care of payment on what can be called "my 52 Topps Mickey Mantle RC". Most of the board is well aware that I am big fan of Stan Musial, and although I thought it would be nice, never thought I would be able to own his 48 Bowman RC in high grade. Well Here she is:

  • Matt,

Spectacular card. I fully understand your complete excitement. You will hold her for hours, you will put her away only to walk back to where she is to take her out and look at it again 15 minutes later.

You will look at it for like 10 minutes when its quiet in your house right before you go to bed. You will think about it while you are falling asleep.
When you goto work, you will be driving home and for that split second under your breath you will scream with pure joy saying to yourself, I have this card I can't believe it!!

You will go back to the card when you get home after saying hello to your family..

That Matt, Is what that card means to you...

    Enjoy and Congrtats!!

    Regards,
    Felicia

Awesome card Matt. Congrats! How does the Bowman rate against the Leaf? Do most collectors view the Bowman as the true rookie? Or are they both rookies?

What is so funny about asking someone to check their photobucket? some people have photos of cards available for trade or sale in their photobucket. What is so amusing about that? image

That is awesome, way to go man!
  • Sweet card! Not a bad cornerstone for your collection.

I remember my first "Dream Card" was a 1983 Topps Traded Darryl Strawberry. Cut me some slack...it was 1986 and I was 9!

I have a question... once you acquire your dream card, do you then set yourself up to have a new dream card? I mean what's next? I mean besides a PSA 9 or 10 of the same card.

That's where I'm at. My goal was to acquire all of Cal's minor league cards and a Peyton Manning issue or two. Acquired them by 30, which has only led to an early mid life crisis.

John, I sold my 86-87 Fleer PSA 9 to a fellow board member and friend of Lee (CDsNuts) so that I could purchase the Stan Musial card.

I think its preference, although the 48 Leaf sells for more money and in the Musial Basic Set has a higher rating than the 48 Bowman. As you know, in the Post War HOFers set the 48 Bowman or 48 Leaf are allowed to represent the Musial RC. I like the Bowman card just because its a such a classic pose of a young Stan Musial.

Great question.....The 48 Bowman is and always will be my favorite and most cherished card in my collection. I guess if I had to choose that next card that I would love to have but is most likely never obtainable to me:

1948 PSA 8 Leaf Stan Musial

Congrats...my dream card is not the hardest thing to find, but I have a background story...anyway, I would love a PSA 9 1965 Roberto Clemente, but that will have to wait till I save some money up.
  • Fantastic card, Matt! It must feel great to finally get the card you've always wanted. Have you added any other cards lately to your HOF rookie set?

Keith, Picked up a couple cards from Steve at BBCE today in addition to the Musial to add to my Post War HOFers set. The Koufax was purchased off EBAY.

  • Those are some great "additional" cards you've got there. That Clemente is one of my favorite cards of all time and the Koufax has incredible centering which is so hard to find on that issue. A hearty congrats once again!
