A simple guess the grade...The only Barber half I own.

I have been messing around with some photos and thought that this might be an easy one for many around here. This is the only Barber Half I own and it resides in my Dansco 7070 Type set:

Technical Fine-12. The surfaces look like a VG-10, but given that most all of the LIBERTY is readable, I’ll give it a 12.

    Nice looking coin. I think it's a tossup between Fine-12 and 15.
    When in doubt, don't.

I'd be happy if this coin came back as a 12.

I would grade it a VG10. Just a bit weak on the reverse detail to squeeze out a F12 at PCGS IMHO. NGC would probably give it a F12 though.

VF20 if it was a key date, but really a F15

If it was an earlier-dated O or S mint marked coin with this detail, I'd say F15.....but being a later date, VG10 to F12 is probably more accurate. I recall TomB or someone once stating that the later dates tend to have stronger LIBERTY detail for the grade than the earlier coins, and my own experience/observation since seems to support this.

VG at best. Not enough detail for a Fine.

Doesn't it have to have more of the 'liberty' showing to be a fine?

In any event it is a nice evenly worn coin.

    Good for you.

    F15--nice one too.

I agree. Not cleaned, but it's not Fine-15 either, unless grade-flation rules.
