Are the Timberwolves the most inept franchise?

It is absolutely painfull being a T'Wolves fan. Trade top picks Brandon Roy, OJ Mayo, and Ty Lawson for nothing. Pick Ricky Rubio with the #5 pick. The Viking may have made the worst trade ever in pro sports history for Herschell Walker, but these are just bad trades after bad trades. I hope McHale ends up in Boston. Maybe then, we can get some good players back in Minnesota.

I feel your pain. Although I am a Bulls fan I have always rooted for the T-wolves. Bottom line is McHale didnt surround KG with enought tallent. They should have never let Starbury image go.

Rubio will be exciting to watch if he comes over.

I double feel your pain as I am also a Viking fan. The Walker deal didnt quite turn out as we hoped. Everyone thought he was the missing piece to get to the SB and it back fired terribly.

Of my three major teams I like Cubs, Bulls, Vikings I have endured total misery. The only bright spot of course is the Bulls titles.

I couldn't imagine being a Pirates fan. The organization doesn't care about winning at all. It's really a shame. Really, why do people even go to games, besides to watch the other team?

Historically, the Clippers are the most inept NBA franchise, although the afore mentioned recent activities by Minnesota certainly have them in the running.

  • Wolves have surpassed the Clippers. Also remember Joe Smith
    Tom
  • Saints fan here. Let's see... 1967 - First pick in the draft. We trade it to Baltimore for Gary Cuozzo. They draft Bubba Smith. We passed on Bubba, Bob Griese, Floyd Little, Alan Page, and Gene Upshaw in the first round for a shot at Gary Cuozzo. Then we pick twice more and pick guys you've never heard of while bypassing on guys like Lem Barney, Rick Volk, Jim Lynch, and so on. We had one good pick in that draft. It was John Gilliam. We traded him to the Vikings so he could be a Pro Bowler in Minnesota. Did we learn from this? Oh, no... The following year we pick Kevin Hardy instead of Larry Csonka or MacArthur Lane, even though our top running back was Jim Taylor who was 83 years old at the time. In 1973 we trade the second pick in the draft (our reward for a stellar 2 win 1972) to Baltimore for the legendary Billy Newsome. The Colts pick Bert Jones. While we had Archie Manning and would not have needed Jones, we could have taken John Hannah, Charle Young, Sam Cunningham, Chuck Foreman, Dave Butz, Wally Chambers, or any number of future Pro Bowlers from that strong draft. In 1974, we pick Ohio State linebacker Rick Middleton, even though Randy Gradishar is still on the board. In 1975 we had two picks in the top 12. How'd we do? Larry Burton and Kurt Schumacher. In 1979, with the 11th pick we drafted punter Russell Erxleben. San Diego took Kellen Winslow two picks later. Even when we got it right we still missed. In 1981 with the first pick we got George Rogers. He was a great pro for a few years. But we passed on Lawrence Taylor and Ronnie Lott.

Basically, here's the rundown. From 1967-1986 we had NO winning seasons, and only a handful of guys named All-Pro. Our BEST season from 1967-1977 was five wins. I had season tickets for almost every one of those seasons and rarely got even three wins to see in person in any season. At least the Timberwolves have had guys like Kevin Garnett and have occasionally made the playoffs. We made the playoffs for the first time in our 21st season. This season coming up is the Timberwolves 21st season. You guys suck, but you've got a long way to go before you've suffered like we did down in New Orleans.

The Twolves were a couple of games away from the NBA Finals a few years ago. Sure that was a flash in the pan, with the help of a couple of key free agents. But still, compared to the decades of futility by the Clippers, it's pretty good.

Clippers are awful, but I give the edge to Wolves because they have been trying to win (no budget constraints, etc)...its clear that Sterling operates for a profit, and winning is a bonus. Taylor and Mchale really tried to win all those years, and did a horrible job of it. Yes we made some playoffs and came close the Finals one year, but this team was only there because they got lucky that Garnett is/was HOF great. He and maybe Marbury are the only 2 good draft picks the wolves have had...that's it (I will NOT include Wally in this group...ever). Clippers let their talent go because Sterling is cheap, making building a long term winner hard. And they have had some bad injuries over the years. Wolves have simply had an inept front office that was unable to put together a great team, or a nucleus to surround Garnett in his best years.

The wolves certainly are up there, especially when considering the Joe Smith debacle along with the rest of their screwups.

The T'woves and Clippers truly stink but the Warriors of the past 15 years aren't any better. Funny you guys mention the Joe Smith debacle for Minnesota but he began a long period of draft futility for Warriors fans.

After the character problems the Warriors had in the preceding years with Latrell "I can't feed my family on that" Sprewell and Chris Webber, the organization went with the safe pick every year and pretty much screwed themselves for the next decade. Let me recap:

1995 - picked Joe Smith #1 overall because he was college POY, hard worker, most ready for NBA. They went safe and bypassed the guys who had more upside like Stackhouse, Sheed and Garnett - all of whom I preferred back on draft day.

1996 - drafted Todd Fuller at #11 and raved about his college GPA. I hadn't seen him play much but knew we were in trouble if you have to talk about his GPA. Kobe was drafted 2 spots later after the Lakers gave up Vlade Divac for the #13 pick. At the time, I didn't blame the Warrior for not drafting Kobe, but they should have at least tried to trade with the Lakers when it was well known that Jerry West wanted Kobe bad.

1997 - drafted Adonal Foyle one spot before Tracy McGrady was taken

1998 - drafted Vince Carter and immediately traded him for Antawn Jamison. I loved Carter in college but again they went with the "safe" guy with less upside.

Oha nd let's not forget that the Warriors are responsible for the worst trade in NBA history. Traded Robert Parish and the #3 Pick (Kevin McHale) in the 1980 Draft to the Celtics for the #1 (Joe Barry Carroll) and #13 (Rickey Brown) picks in the 1980 Draft.

Does anyone understand?? I am a cubs fan!!

Havent won a WS since 1908

Havent appeared in one since 1945.

Blew a huge lead in 1969 to the Mets.

Let Greg Maddux get away becaue he wanted a no trade clause in his contract. (Meaning he wanted to stay with the Cubs!)

Lou Brock and Bruce Sutter to your divisional rival anyone? Jamie Moyer, Joe Carter and Palmiro put up some good numbers too.

1984 Blow a two game lead in the NLCS in a 5 game series! (Steve Garvey scared me for life). Ryno error, spill gatorade on Leon Durhams glove..

I still have to go with the Clippers. They have had one playoff series victory in the last 3 decades plus.

And if you want a bad trade, how about giving up a future #1 pick (that ended up becoming Brad Daugherty) for Joe "Jellybean" Bryant?
