tiger woods sports illustrated for kids 1996?

was there one sheet with the woods card that was inserted in a particular issue of SI and was it in every issue for that week? whats the best thing to with the uncut sheet? My buddy swears he has every issue at his parents house.. i know i know.. he prob doesn't have it.... but i'm curious anyways what you should do? i don't remember ever seeing an uncut sheet on ebay... i know that neither of us would be any good at cutting the sheet ourselves and getting it to a gradeable size... are you better off selling the uncut sheet.. or search for someone to properly cut the card? thanks for any info.. also if he does really have it.. i'll scan it for kicks... i've never seen it so think it would be a cool scan

  • About 1998 or 99 every library in the country was raided by card collectors looking for Sports Illustrateds.

so you actually have to rip the cards apart? if you use a paper cutter to get a clean cut.. will it ruin the card? there is a 100% chance i rip right through the card if i try to do that. sorry for all of the questions that were prob discussed in 2000.

I have never seent he magazine but from what I understand it is not the regular SI magazine. It is the SI For Kids. Different issue altogether.

if you are going to remove it.. bend it back and forth on the perforation gently to loosen it.. and not damage the surface..
the same way you would bend a piece of paper to tear it in half to make a straight tear
  • I believe the card was in the December 1996 issue with Larry Johnson on the cover. I had the magazine as a kid and sold it when i was a senior in High school for a little over $2500 in 2000 when they were going crazy. It was the first big sale I ever had and it jump started my business.

thanks for the info.. i'll find out for sure this weekend if my buddy really has it or not. Was just looking at prices on ebay and they are nowhere as exciting as i remember. I never really got how a perforated card could be graded a 10.. talk about subjective.

I had a subscription to SI for kids in the early nineties. Are any of those worth digging out? I checked on ebay and it seems that all the interest is in the more recent ones.
  • Don't cut it!!!

You can always cut it down the road when you either find somebody who knows how, or find enough information on how to do it. But once you mess up, you can't take it back...

I wouldn't take it off the sheet. Just have the whole sheet slabbed. I know BGS has large holders that should accomodate that, and I know PSA has holders that will accomodate at least T3's, they might have bigger, call their customer service and ask. Would look great all slabbed up.
