where can i buy a replacement charger for a whites DFX battery?

Can I just go to Radio Shack, buy a generic transformer with the below specs and get an adapter that fits the pack? I was thinking about cutting the end of the cord off and putting on a Deans connector, used for Radio Controlled electronics, and just use my fancy battery charger. Any ideas?

The charger is stamped:

509-0022
Battery Charger
Use only with
802-5211 Battery Pack

Input: 120VAC 60Hz 5.W
Output 11.6VDC

Overnight: 85mA
Fast: 280ma

I don't know if The Shack (I guess that's what they're called now) can help you out but it's worth a shot.

If not, I'd give Kellyco a call.
  • Your local dealer can help!

    Order from White's:
    http://whiteselectronics.com/products/accessories/batteries.html
    $24.95

YOU WANT ONE FROM WHITE'S !!! They are made so that the battery will not overheat ! ! !

Be careful, they can blow up if overheated/charged.

Stick with the suppliers charger (White's)... batteries can be touchy things and cause big problems - i.e. leakage, explosion etc. Cheers, RickO

No, you cannot just hook up any old wall wart to a battery. Not even if the voltages and 'current' ratings match. There is a risk of overheating, explosion and fire.

A battery charger has additional circuitry to detect when the batteries are at full charge and reduce the current to a trickle.

A wall wart will not do that.
  • I would also stick with detector dealers for replacement/extra batteries. Do a search and shop around a little, you may be able to save a few bucks with a just a few minutes of searching the web. I've always gotten good service from Kellyco the few times I've ordered from them. Good luck, Jerry
