Another Coin Shop Report

SWT's shop report was an enjoyable read, so I thought I'd throw my own - albeit shorter - recent experience in. I was on vacation this past weekend in the Philadelphia area and stopped by Pennies, Pounds and Pesos in the suburb of Media. I walked in just as the shop opened, so there were no other customers around, just the owner George and his bulldog. He had a nice selection of coins, both raw and certified. He even showed me a couple Bust Quarters when I told him what I collected. I passed on the quarters, but ended up leaving with a PCGS 64RB 1909 VDB Linc which he gave me a very fair price on. It's got some neat purple tones and a very cool die crack through "Liberty." Sorry, no pics yet. Like many B&Ms I guess, he said he couldn't keep any bullion in stock. As soon as he buys it, it's out the door. My biggest surprise was finding out he accepted credit cards. Perhaps this is a common practice now, but I remember when I was younger none of my local shops took credit cards.
I was there half an hour or so talking shop with him and probably could have spent longer, but the lady of the house rang my cell phone and my fun was over. Well, my coin fun anyway

<< <i>Cool. When I asked my shop owner if he took credit cards for the coins he showed me, he said cash or check only, so off I went to the bank. >>
Yeah, the only reason I was able to buy the VDB was because he took credit cards. It wasn't very expensive, under $100, but I didn't have that much cash on me to spend at the beginning of my trip. He said the extra business he gets because of the credit cards more than outweighs the fees. I guess I'm a perfect example.
