No, sir, I'm not one of your suckers...

Just picked up the phone to talk to someone I've been avoiding through Caller ID since I figured it was some cold call from a coin or bullion company. They've tried calling maybe ten times in the last week.

The guy goes on talking about a "special" on Morgan silver dollars, 1878 to 1904, with lots of mint marks and certified by PCGS and NGC as MS-64.

All for a special promotional price (because I'm so special, I guess) of.... $119 a piece!

I told him I didn't just fall off a turnip truck and I can pick up as many of these in common dates as I could possibly want for $50 or $60. And those are average for the grade, not the dogs.

"Encapsulated and certified in 64?" he said, sounding incredulous as if I was suggesting I could buy an ounce of gold for $500.

Yes, that's right, this is way overpriced and please put me on your "do not call" list. Thank you.

Click. The line went dead....

  • You should have offered to supply him with all he could buy... at $75-80 a pop... image
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

    you should have asked him

    Arrrgh!

Should have asked if they were stickered. image
  • You just told off a phone receptionist who's paid $11/hour who doesn't even know what he's selling. You have to ask to speak to their manager or product specialist. image

Lots of mintmarks, eh? Should've told him that you only want CCs.

Right ... specify only CC's and specific dates.... for that price, you could get a real winner - talk about a rip... image... as if they would have any of the rarities...but would be fun to string them along a bit...RickO
