Sorry guy for the way off topic post, but im so excited!
I was just at the local casino playing $1-$2 no limit holdem when the card room manager got on the PA and announce...."we will now be drawing for 1 lucky winner to receive a free seat to this sunday's $50 buy-in tournament". So a few mins goes by and he draws table 30 as the winning table...there were around 20-25 active tables at the time. A few guys at my table let out an exuberant "YES!". A few mins later, the manager comes over and deals out 1 card to each of the 9 players at my table...high card wins the entry. Im in seat #2 and the dealer pops the ace of spades...game over, I win. So he asks me for an ID and I give it to him, then asks if I can make it Sunday. I casually reply that I should be able to.
Now the cool part....
So he walks away to do the paperwork, and a few players congratulate me and start to look at me funny. One player finally says to me..."How in the hell can you not be excited?". I reply, "Its only a $50 buy-in, no biggie". His eyes grow wider than a saucer and he goes "NO....its a $1500 buy-in!".
There is a guaranteed prize pool of $100,000 with an average entry of around 100 players I was told. Last month's winner won $42,000!
This will be my biggest tourney BY FAR, as even a $250 buy-in is "big" for me!
Wish me luck for Sunday fellas!

Did you watch the first episode of the Main Event on ESPN?
It gives me something to look forward to on Tuesdays.

Havent really been keeping up with this year's main event. Its so hard to get into for me with so few pros at each table. I need to reread my Hellmuth book before Sunday though!!!

I agree about the main event. I won't ruin it for you, but this years November 9 has a VERY big pro still at the table. Google it if youre curious. And best of luck on your tourney.
Now, steve's turn.
Sounds like its just about time for another on line poker thread from Lee!! Man I miss those, I won one of those once, got a coolio Steve Young card for my troubles.
Good luck, play well, and (most importantly) RUN GOOD!!!

Just out of curiosity, how did you confuse $1,500 for $50?

When the PA announcement came over, I was hardly paying attention, so it sounded like "fifty dollar buy-in" when in fact he said "fifteen hundred dollar buy-in".
You're funny Joe. I'm dealing with a newborn and don't have 8 minutes to myself to concentrate, much less 5 hours.
Phil,
As someone who has played in a bunch of high buy-in tourneys, the only advice I can give is to put the money out of your head. Once you're close to the money and you start thinking about what you're going to do with the money, that's less you'll be concentrating on the players at your table. My first 10k buy-in, I played the absolute worst poker of my life because of this. Whatever you need to tell yourself to do it, just put the money out of your mind. The less you think or care about the actual money at stake, the better you will play. Hope you do well.

good luck, let us know how you do. hope you have another good story for us next week
