Having gone to Iowa's opening game where they barely beat DII Northern Iowa I can not believe they are 8-0. Crazy! College football sure is great. At a party yesterday with no TV so had the I-phone humming at all times!
So does Oregon leap over Boise State now? Boise State with no losses and Oregon with one loss to Boise State. Hmmmmmmm..... Oregon demolished U$C tonight.
Iowa still has to be about the worst 8-0 team I have ever seen in a major conference. Stanzi was tragic again for most of the game. They got a couple fortunate calls later in the game that I feel helped them (no, none of the ones Bob Davies kept claiming were incorrect calls). They play in what is certainly looking like the weakest of the major conferences this year. I also think they don't have to play OSU if I recall correctly, so they get "bailed out" there. They'll have one solid win (against PSU) at best at the end of the year. But for the sake of the conference (fellow Big 10'er here), I hope they become the worst team to ever be awarded a national championship.
But you still gotta give kudos to them for continuing to fight yesterday. But I can't see this team beating a really good team, but then again... they might get the chance to prove me wrong
I am just ready for the World Series to be over so we can get back to college football and then, soon enough, college basketball. I am sick of having threads for each World Series game, multiple players, some at-bats, etc.... Same with SportsCenter... it's about 20 minutes of WS BS! Though I realize the Yankees are the center of the sports universe (as far as they know) it will be nice to be done with it.
I have sent my wife and daughters to B'ham for the day. A little mall shopping, then some Olive Garden, then a little Disney on ice, followed by big heaping serving of spending the night with Nana. As for myself, its 9:41 and we are on beer number two, or as I call it, Game-day breakfast.
Iowa lost Mich lost Boise State looked bad against La. Tech (who was within 2 points in the 4th before it fell apart). So far so good. Now I need Bama to beat LSU & Florida to slay Vandy & I'll be happy!

Not to worry. The SEC officials have been seeing to it that Florida's and Alabama's undefeated run to the conference championship continues. >>
By my count, that's about 4 games or so between Fla-Ala that the refs have had a 'hand' in the outcome... >>
I was at the UF/Vandy game yesterday...when i got home I saw the "interception that wasn't". The SEC refs sure are giving plenty of ammo to those who think a fix is in. Great story on SEC refs on si today read it here.

The time has come for officials to work for the NCAA, not a conference. With BCS money in play, there's just too much incentive to want one of your teams in position to play for the so-called "championship" and create a blockbuster conference championship game.
As long as the SEC has an obvious financial interest in getting two of its teams at the top of the BCS standings, there will be a potential for conflict of interest when the top teams are consistently getting all the controversial calls go their way in close and late situations.
People always want to strike down those who are on top. SEC haters and people who are jealous of the SEC will always come up with some crazy theories. Players make mistakes, and so do refs. Does anyone want to talk about fouls that refs don't call when some teams are holding the crap out of Bama and Florida ?
Heck, I even heard a Phillies fan who said the Yankees purposely lost game 5 in Philadelphia so they could go to Yankee stadium and win it. He said that AJ Burnett gave Chase Utley a batting practice fast ball in the first inning purposely so Steinbrenner could make more money with an extra game in New York.
I think talking about the refs is crazy. Stuff happens. The SEC is a great conference but, this year, is not as much ahead as in other years. This is a great year for college football with no single dominating player, no single dominating team, and several non-BCS schools getting into the mix. Should be a fun next few weeks!
