Day 3, Site #1 - what's this?

I returned to the site mentioned in this thread. Only got an hour in before the rain came.

screwcap, couple of round rings from a door or something, a hinged object, another strip of copper, shell casing, 1964-P cent, 1975-P dime, 1986 Canadian quarter, and a brass knob or something.

Any ideas on this knob-like thing?

I've been told it's a brass piece of a horse bridle. I believe the round rings are also from a bridle.
