Looks pretty bad from the sellers pictures. We will see.

And it was quite ugly when the coin arrived today. The coin had turned color in the older ANACS slab. Drab brownish tint is puke material. I cracked it and hit it with acetone and a very mild dip. The coin IMO is only a MS64FB coin and I am sure PCGS would say so also. Picture below after clean up.

POS might not, but CRAP will.

That coin has been telepathically branded as a CRAP coin.

It looks like a little bit is already smeared on the bar code.

Please send me one dollar. Thank you.

In the unlikely event that the coin does not deserve the CRAP designation, I will refund your money.

<< <i>that is fugly. What may ask did it set you back for? >>

It will be tough to break even on this one. Its going in on the CC quarterly special and hopefully 64FB will come back. If that happens it will be a almost break even deal for the $108.50 that I paid for the coin. Hunches work sometimes and not at all other times.

The 'after' pic looks decent - I think you did a pretty good job restoring or 'conserving' an otherwise nasty looking coin.

Your photo doesn't make it look too bad.

I am sorry, but that is not a CRAP coin after all.

We must, in good conscience, retract our original CRAP stamp of approval.

We will be sending your money back in the form of a gift certificate for future CRAP coin designations.

I may be the only one lol. I don't dislike the coin after its acetone bath at all. If it were one of my keepers I would place the coin in an older album or an envelope and let it rest for a year or so. The color may get significantly better in a year or two. I like the coin its got a lot of soul and personality.

Absoluty nothing wrong with that coin!
Acetone or not, me thinks ANACS got it right! image
  • Does pcgs consider acetone and a dip altered surfaces?
    I SURE WISH THEY DID!!

I have an older PCI that looks way "worser" image
I'll try to capture a few images of it tomorrow.

That's a fine looking coin FM.

You bought a coin that looked like someone encased in a turd for a few generations and somehow got it into an ANACs slab. Your conservation job imo is a good one. The coin imo will definitely grade. How's the luster? Can't tell from the pic. PCGS is very tough on coins whose toning detracts from its luster. It doesn't like ugly toning, either. I personally don't think the toning on the conserved coin is ugly, but they may think otherwise.

The above being said, I would not have bought the coin. I try to buy stuff I like as is.
