My first Bust Half... what do you think? (PICTURES IN HAND ADDED)

I'm not sure how I went from just being a Peace dollar vam collector to a bust half collector today. I dont collect them, know anything about them, done any research on them, know what they cost, how many were made, and the list goes on... She's resting in a PCGS green holder. When I saw this one.. I just had to buy it, I mean, overpay for it.....

Looks like a piece from Eye Appealing Coins... Nice piece, hope you enjoy it.
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.
  • I like it, but I'm often turned off by toned circulated coins...so I wouldn't have one like that due to the premium. But, it will be a hit with a lot of people provided it's gradeable.

By the way, be careful...soon you will have the fever.

I saw it on his website, also. Nice 29/7...and from the pics accurately graded too. I thought that Ray's asking price was a little high, but not totally outrageous.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
  • It's gradeable.... image

The picture doesn't "feel" accurate based upon saturation or hue.

  • I'd agree, this picture I'm sure was taken in an ideal setting to bring out the colors. Most rainbow coins are photographed that way. I'll post some "what it looks like in hand" pics when I get her. This is my first rainbow coin as well....

I love it! I don't see how anyone would not like toned circ coins??? Coins that are that old are NOT supposed to be white. If they are something has been done to them.
  • I've looked at all of the Heritage archives and posts here and have come to one conclusion. There are not many rainbow bust halves out there.... well.... that are NOT in "Utahcoin " collection.. image

The color is clearly over saturated. In general

I really do not like colors in the yellow range.

I think you will find the colors a lot less green and yellow. Just look at the slab they are grey and I have found many of those old green label slabs to have turned yellow with time.
So for me I will just keep my drab old PCGS EF45.

  • A really beautiful coin.

I was wondering about the colour, saturation seems pushed a bit, but then the green of the slab didn't look too bad, so I'm not sure what to think.

    Congrats Peaceman!

And I hope you can post your own pictures when you get this. It would be interesting to see the difference.

I'm guessing the difference will be similar to the difference in pictures in this thread:

Two NEWPS from Eye Appealing Coins: #1 in my book!!! Thanks Ray!

Your 1829 seems to have a somewhat similar color saturation to his 1859-O in the Eye Appealing Coins pictures. I would be very curious to see your pics.

1829 is a very common date. I hope you didn't overpay by much.

Nice coin I'd say it's an XF45. While the 29 is a common date a 29/7 that's nice problem free coin isn't one you'd just go to Ebay to get. These are getting harder to find.

    Nice coin, but no sticker.

Wow. I had one like that once, then I sold it, and I've been trying to find another since then. 10 years so far. That is NICE!
Really enjoying collecting coins and currency again

    Very nice first bustie.
Look closely at the overdate and see that they punched a curved bottom 2 over a squared bottom 2.
CBH's are great coins to collect.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

  • Those pics are what I expected. I didn;t think I'd get a coin that looked like X-mas...lol. Having it in hand and tilting it into the sun the only thing I can say is WOW. All of the colors are deep and rich. I'm very happy.
