SEATTLE -- With a third-inning double on Sunday, the Yankees' Derek Jeter logged his 2,674th career hit as a shortstop, surpassing Hall of Famer Luis Aparicio for the most in Major League history.
Jeter entered the afternoon against the Mariners at Safeco Field trailing the record by one hit, but he tied Aparicio with a first-inning single to right field off Seattle right-hander Doug Fister.
The career Yankee stood alone after his next at-bat, a run-scoring two-base hit to right field off Fister that drove home Ramiro Pena with the first run of the game. Jeter, who made his Major League debut in 1995 and is in his 15th season in New York, also has 13 hits in his career as a designated hitter.
A 1984 inductee to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, Aparicio was a career .262 hitter in 2,601 games over 18 seasons with the White Sox, Orioles and Red Sox.
Good for you.

The only guys to have more hits than Jeter's present total at the age of 35 (and their final rank on the all-time list) are:
Ty Cobb = 3264 hits (#2)
Hank Aaron = 2956 hits (#3)
Robin Yount = 2875 hits (#17)
Rogers Hornsby = 2855 hits (#33)
Sam Crawford = 2851 hits (#29)
Tris Speaker = 2794 hits (#5)
Stan Musial = 2781 hits (#4)
Pete Rose = 2762 hits (#1)
Willie Keeler = 2749 hits (#32)
Mel Ott = 2761 hits (#38)
Lou Gehrig = 2717 hits (#53)
Roberto Clemente = 2704 hits (#27)
Jesse Burkett = 2703 hits (#41)
Derek Jeter = 2691 hits (#60 now, ???)
They're ALL in the Hall of Fame. How long will Jeter last?
