Sample Slabs for the weekend

So I'll be posting a different sample slab from my collection each weekend...............I should be done in 8 1/2 years. image

I know Condor101 has a good friend who hangs out here and hopefully Condor101 will tell his friend a few more fact to add to this thread, sorry but I forgot Condor101s friends name.image

I'll be using Camerons numbers and at times I may be making up my own numbers.

Lets start with PCGS

PCGS 1

Sampleslabs.com says PCGS1 is very similar to PCGS2 but has 000000 as the serial number instead of .64/7000023. The coin is a Roosevelt dime with the word “Sample” below. This is the scarcer type of the first two types.

imageimage

As per Condor101s' book

PCGS 1S1-The first type holder. Sample printed where the grade would normally be. Bottom line where the coin type, grade code and serial number should be is all zeros.
this slab design used in 1986.

A few of my sample slabs I have a price history on, this slab doesn't appear too often so not very much history. My wag on price is $30 to $65. Mind you I'm not trying to sell this slab. If I had to put a price tag on it the would read $75.
I sold a duplicate for $113 about 18 month ago.

When you are done with your sample slabs, I can then do a show and tell of my sample slabs.

Figure on another 2-3 years of non duplicates on top of your 8 1/2 years. image

ibzman350, would it be too much of a chore to give us some info on the slabs you post? I would be interested in a time

frame of each, advantage of change in product and a price at this time. I've aquired several over the years, I just felt

they (promotional slabs) too be interesting and a piece of history. Will you consider my request?

    Thank you

  • Mr. Priest I'll give it a shot and try my best, for reference material I'll be using this website, thanks Cameron.

  • This week PCGS 1.1 on Camerons site

This is what Cameron has to say about this slab

This is the same scarce type of slab and label as PCGS 1, but this one has a proof dime inside. You can tell a difference even by a scan in the quality of th coin, and this type surfaced on ebay in 2004. I imagine it will be as hard to locate as PCGS 1 and would be a highlight in a PCGS sample slab collection. Keep your eyes open for this type!

Not too many of these slabs have shown up on ebay, I've seen 2 since I've been tracking sales

  • PCGS 2 on sampleslabs.com

This is what Cameron has to say about this slab

Known as the “rattler” holder, the early PCGS holders were used from 1986-1989 and are still seen sometimes today. This sample was given out at most of the shows during this time period to acquaint collectors with their slab.

I have 7 different PSGS 2 samples and will post them as I find the pics. If anyone has any PCGS 2 samples other then the ones I have/will be posting here please let me know, I would like to know what's out there.

    As per Condor101s' book

PCGS 1S2 Same as 1S1 but "Sample" has been moved down one line and the grade MS 64 placed at the center of line two. The serial number is now the proper number for the series of the coin enclosed, 64 for the grade code, a slash and an actual seven digit serial number starting with700XXXX.

  • Here it is the weekend again, I know from all the enthusiasm, replies and what nots, you're wondering wa hapen to the sample slabs for the weekend thread. Fear not, I'm
    here to please.

Sorry I'm a little late. had a big(long) poker game last night/this morning.

This week I'm featuring PCGS 2.2. This number is not on the sampleslab site, I made it up. The slabs should/could be called mechanical error slabs,
they all have the incorrect coin number on the insert.

This is the 05120 Series which I have seven of..........................05120 is the coin number for the 1960 dime. Anyone have any different dates, please let me know.

    Hi Herb,

Haven't posted here in a few years and just stopped by to see if anyone still collected sample slabs.
I now have over 500 and no newer ones from the past few years.

Is Cameron still around and will he ever update his site?
