Hopefully, win number 82 will come Friday night against the Cards...must already be the SI curse with Cutch appearing on the SI cover
Stolen from another board, but funny, nonetheless...this was the All Time Losing Pirates Team of the last 20 years (players that personified the 'loser' tag):
C - Joe "No more Guillen" Oliver 1B - Mark "Spring Training Hero" Johnson 2B - Abe "Top Prospect Flop" Nunez SS - Pat "Big Money" Mears 3B - Joe "Trade two of your best infielders for him, then let him get claimed in expansion draft the next year and then resign him 10 years later as an overpaid has been" Randa OF - Derrick "Operation Shutdown" Bell OF - Raul "I quit, haha just kidding" Mondesi OF - Tike "3 Hitter Quitter" Redmond
B - Aramis "Traded For Who?" Ramirez B - Benito "The Ageless" Santiago B - Chad "The Great Hope" Hermansen B - Brant "I had 1 Good Game" Brown B - Chris "Big Stick" Stynes
P - Brian "Top Flop" Bullington P - Jason "Open your Golden Gate" Schmidt P - Ian "I demote myself" Snell P - Jimmy "The Marshmallow Man" Anderson
Congratulations to the Bucco's. Honestly, I am so glad their non-winning season streak is over. I will always pull for the Reds to win the WS but if they don't then I hope the Pirates do.
So glad the monkey is off our backs! Some interesting comments about Cutch in '09 by Morgoth. I think he developed right into that HR range morgoth hoped for!
Regarding the all time Pirate losing team, how can Jeromy Burnitz not be on that list? He was basically retired when the Pirates handed him a $6 million dollar contract when nobody else wanted him. After loafing his way through his last season in the bigs, he enthusiastically went up to Dave Littlefield and thanked him profusely.
It may be inappropriate to reflect on the losing streak at this point in time but this article summarizes the Bucs at their lowest when they were losing 100 games and had no farm system.

Fast forward to 2013 and the Phillies would still be interested in trading Ryan Howard (and his contract) for a retired Kris Benson...
