Cave Man Coin Club silver...

MeltdownMeltdown Posts: 8,824 ✭✭✭✭✭
Anybody seen one of these before? It's Mother Lode Mint and has a pretty low serial number.
The coin club was out of Grant's Pass Oregon I guess?
Maybe someone who knows a bit more about art bar ingots than I do can tell me if this one is particularly rare or not...

search for it on ebay. Looks neat, most likely worth a good premium.

  • According to the 5th edition of Kidd's Guide Book of Silver Art Bars the total mintage of these bars was 500; 250 with serial numbers and 250 without. A rarity "value" of $35.

I'll give you $25 for it.

Doesn't the "rarity value" refer to the value over melt for the particular bar? It seems a strange way to determine a market value for collectible art bars, but maybe there's no other practical way to list the value for these bars? Specifically, if the spot price of silver is low, like it is now, this additional "rarity value" measure might be in-line with the market value, but if the spot price were to reach many multiples of this, say $100/oz, then this rarity value as a percentage of the total market value might not hold true, right?

The Archie Kidd guide book is not a perfect measurement of value, that is for sure. I think it's more of an estimated value guide. I have seen those rarity values hold true for the most part with ebay sales. Then again, a few art bars I have watched have gone for much, much more than the stated rarity over spot value. I have been looking for this particular ingot on ebay for over a year now and have not seen one like it.

  • Went looking for the 5th Edition and they had one on Amazon for $220.00. Are these that expensive? Found a 6th Ed. on Ebay (Ken Potter) for $39.99.

  • I picked up all editions but one for around $100 each. The 6th is cheapest @ $40. It was actually the best one for me. I just scanned all the pages & Resold the books image
    Its all relative

the earlier editions are very expensive. The 6th edition is by far the cheapest.
