1960 tattoo pack...

Does anyone know if you can see (graded or un) what player is in a 1960 unopened pack of tattoos?

I thought I read on some message board that you could?? Can anyone corroborate this?

Thanks for any info...

I'm pretty sure you can. Unopened packs don't go for much. One reason is because you can see the player. If I remember correctly, I have seen BBCE or BBCKid have an unopened pack with Mantle showing a few years back.

I have a set of these and several "unopened" packs. You can easily tell the player or action figure in the pack.

Ever notice that Topps spelled Tattoo differently in 1960 as opposed to 1964 ?

The tattoo wrapper is wrapped around a piece of wrapped gum-the gum can slide out/leaving the tattoo wrapper still rounded and attached to itself-you then can look inside (the back side of the wrapper to see the player. After You look you can slide the gum back in. I have one tattoo -Ray Herbert-he is for sale if you need him.

No Steve - not from you...image

I was looking at a GAI pack currently on the bay...

I thought maybe the flips listed who the player was inside?

thanks for the replies thus far...

follow-up...contacted seller and this was the reply...

    Dear swartz1,

No I can't--I have no idea who is in the pack. I would think
when they slabbed it, they would have put it on the insert.

I seriously doubt that PSA would pull back the wrapper on one of the '60 Tatttttoo packs to see who the player is prior to grading it--(ta)too great a chance they'd tear the wrapper. Once the thing is slabbed, there's definitely no way to tell.

I'm still kicking myself for passing on a box of 240 of those things about 10 years ago. Ouch.

+1 for a Bishop sighting from me as well. image

I agree with Bob ( it always nnoys me to say so) that once slabbed there is no way to tell...and that PSA may not "peek" before slabbing. But I agree with Scott that unslabbed packs can be easily checked without danger of tearing the "seal. The easier the gum slides out, the more times it has likely been checked. I always get a chuckle out of sellers who offer an unopened unslabbed pack with "Mantle ?" in the title. You can be pretty sure it is more likely to be a Left Handed Pitcher action figure
