Edit to add: Why, The seller first and foremost.
On that note, while it might be real (the D in derek looks somewhat similar to other rookie autos of his) , I wouldn't go near it. Not when a new jeter auto is (alot more) affordable.
1) The D is a diff shape from all that I've come accross.
2) I never seen the Derek seperated from the Jeter. (WAY OFF)
3) The stroke on the J on all real ones on the down stoke usually goes light.
4) The R at the end looks off.
5) The seller.
Best regards!

Now another problem thats occuring here is that some people are buying the Proof which wasnt signed and their either forging it or handing it to Jeter to sign now thats why on some you see a different sig.
The auction ending 2 minutes after the one you posted is a real auto and this is the way all 250 were signed. LINK
A couple months ago I seen a non graded one sell where Jeter had crossed the T which he never does.
And for the poster above who paid 3k for the PSA 10 dont worry its a real auto from 1992.
1 more thing to consider with this card in the PSA pop report is that back in day PSA graded the Proof and mixed it with this Pop report so the numbers are skewed in favor of the auto card

All ones signed now would be his new auto. Like I said I never seen one with the Derek & the Jeter seperated.

Could of slipped by one of the graders. But most likely its a proof that was signed just recently by Jeter.
<< <i>Gonblot .... A PSA 10 of this card was on ebay about a month ago from shoeless that ended at 2k, lucky you missed that one, it was a dud in my opinion. This is why yours finished so high the sharps know which auto is good and which isnt. Im happy you won it, very nice card. >>
I know......almost won that auction but forgot to bid at the last second.
Good thing I missed it!
<< <i>I wouldnt touch that card with a ten foot pole.

Totally agree.
I bought a card from that azzwhole early this year. I got it real cheap , as no one was looking or buying. I paid immediately . After 2 weeks , I emailed about the card. Nothing. I started the item-not-recieved thing. He then claims I never paid him , so that his Ebay fees would be reduced. After contacting Ebay / paypal , I got my money back and I learned my lesson.
Don't do it.
<< <i>My opinion & only mine. I feel its not real. I have owned 9 of these & also have seen over 60.

This is the kind of analysis I have been asking for all along. I appreciate the fact you took the time to give a full and detailed reason for your opinion that the autograph is not good.
Thank you
Andrew
so..... the card IS signed by jeter, just not in 1992. pardon my ignorance, but it's still Jeter right? its not a forgery.

<< <i>The main problem here is that PSA graded this auto authentic. This should be reported to PSA and they should re-call the card from shoeless and have the auction removed. Problem is how do we convince them that one of their graders certified this auto as authentic when it isnt? >>
Everyone makes mistakes. I'm sure if it was brought to there attention they would do the right thing.

Keep in mind, too, that Jeter signed this when he was like, 10.
10-year-olds don't really have an established signature yet.
Seriously, how can you expect a high school kid to have the same sig that he has 20 years later?

Generally, an end-user - in possession of the item - needs to be the
party that initiates a "warranty claim."
While we might think PSA is "obligated" to take a proactive stance,
they are not really bound/required to do so, UNLESS they become
TOTALLY convinced that there is an error that will result in harm to
another person. Even then, the nature of their "obligation" to act,
absent a warranty claim, is murky.
Obviously, though, it is not in any TPG's interest to have a bad sig
residing in one of their slabs. This might cause PSA to want to take
some kind of preemptive action.
Opinion vs. Opinion is usually a tough sell.
Well everyone knows that Jeter never crosses his T's ..even his 3 grade teacher
