<< <i>Beginning of August and you're writing off the rest of the league? I can't wait to come back to this thread. >>
Note that a Phillies - Red Sox World Series would be absolutely fine by me...I was hoping for that last season. But I think there is still that "aura" or whatever it is, for a NL team about playing the Yankees in the WS that I would like to experience.
And I realize that Ruth, DiMaggio, and Mantle aren't on the team any longer.
<< <i>Rest assured...if this happens I will firmly jump on the Phillies bandwagon (just for the series)

You won't have to worry about that

<< <i>The Series is tentatively scheduled to start on October 28, 2009, which is the latest start in World Series history. For the first time ever, the World Series will be first scheduled to end in November (the 2001 World Series went into November because of a week-long delay in the season due to the September 11 attacks). Assuming no weather delays, Game Four will be played Sunday, November 1 and, if necessary, Game Seven will take place on November 5. >>
madness for cold weather teams...especially night games.

<< <i>The city of Philadelphia is only entitled to one WS championship every 28 years.

I just read the rule book - I didn't see that rule in there.
<< <i>The Phillies have as many WS titles as do the Marlins, and it took them only an extra hundred years or so to do it. My first major league game was Phillies-Dodgers in 1959. The Phillies won 2-1, but I do not remember any other details. >>
According to Retrosheet.org.--- On June 10th 1959 , The Dodgers lost to the Phillies 2-1 at Philly .
I hope this helps.---- Sonny

<<< Shibe Park, Attendance: 11,079 >>>
A little error in the Baseball Reference - In 1953 Shibe Park was renamed Connie Mack Stadium.
Former names Shibe Park (1909-1953)
Connie Mack Stadium (1953-1976)
OK, just kidding, it ain't over till its over -- still time for the Sox to right the ship -- it's up to them to step up and get out of the offensive doldrums!
