A little submission tidbit

While I was at the National, a PSA employee informed me that for mail-in submissions, it is not necessary to put the label on the cardsaver that shows submission # and line item, even though it shows this on their website. She explained they do not use it, and it is only for our own purposes. Was anyone else aware of this, because I've wasted a lot of time doing this in the past (not a ton of time, but enough to be annoying)?

I never use labels but that's good to know. I just sent them 218 cards with no labels and in the back of my mind, I was thinking the process may be slowed down.

    Thanks for the info!

Yep I was aware that it did not matter.

New to me too. That will save a few mins here and there.

I always assumed it was in case a card got separated from the rest of the sub before it was logged.
Those labels are a pain in the a** for large subs
Why would PSA require something that has no purpose for the submission?
This would have been nice to know, oh, four years ago.

BTW thank you for the info

I had heard this but was not sure how it would work, so what do you fill out on the submission form , just list everything and they will figure it out? I would think this would lead to more mechanical errors with mislabeled cards but I get plenty of those even though I use the labels now.

    I've never used the labels

I recently did two different submissions- no labels on the Ultra Pros, no detailed sub form (sent a spreadsheet), and it got logged in faster than any sub I'd ever done before

Wow, that sure is nice to know! I always printed my out using the label maker in Word. I'm assuming it's still a great idea to pack your cards in the same order as the sub sheet though.

If anyone has ever put labels on the back of 2176 card savers for an order, you'd understand my current level of frustration.

Let's just say it takes a really long time.

I hope gumby and LSU were aware of this...

if not... it sure would have saved them considerable time...

73 pages of labels like these for the last group submission. 50 for the previous.

  • I don't use labels, I don't use submission forms and I don't have any problems. An excel spreadsheet printed and wrapped around the bundle of cards to grade gets a quick entry everytime.

    I never do it anymore.

I also have no idea why anyone would submit anything for on-site grading at the National or any other show. I've consistently had better grades just dropping off stuff there and waiting on them to come back. On-site grading in my view is always excessively harsh, particularly in relation to the cost.

I brought a few cards with me to get graded at the Nationals, but mainly autos, because I didn't have the patience to wait for the turnaround time

Agreed. I haven't submitted many for onsite grading but haven't had good luck with it. My Schmidt rookie graded an 8. I complained to Steve Rocci (yes this was a long time ago). He took it to the back room, came back and offered me a 9(PD) because it had two white specs on the Schmidt photo. After walking the National and seeing no less than 5 Schmidt 9's that had multiple white specs and no 'PD' qualifier, I decided to send it in at a later time. Lo and behold, the card now rests in its proper unqualified 9 holder.

I have an order I have been preparing that has about 2000 cards.
I have faithfully placed a hand written sticker on every single card.

    Unbelievable.

On my last order (I think it was around 125 cards) I had two stacks. On one stack I put one label that read
lines 1 thru 65 and on the other lines 66 thru 125. That worked for me.

I always use the stickers and have never had a submission take more than a week. Kind of thought the stickers helped, but I guess not.

Last week I called PSA regarding some relic cards that I did not want to place in CS1’s. The guy I spoke with said that you can use top loaders to submit too. The only thing you can’t use is a screw down or locking case.
