I haven't looked at any of the cards yet but there are quite a few (maybe 300?). I expect anything of value has been removed but if there were some cards that are usually "good" like rookies etc. it would help to know so I can start to break the box down into varieties that might be worth looking into.
Look at the back of the card and find the copyright date, then look at the front of the card and see the company name. That should narrow it down enough to determine if you have naything of value

Beckett publications will do just fine for your purpose.

What year is the cut off what card manufacturer?
I humbly ask, sorry if that sounded a bit abrasive.

Theres no set cutoffs or "right" manufacturers, but if you have nothing but 1988 Fleer baseball, you can pretty much use it to start your next campfire. If you have 1986 Fleer basketball, you might be sitting on a few hundred bucks worth of cards even WITHOUT the Jordan.

Why haven't you looked at the cards? If I came across a box of rare coins, I'd take five minutes and sit down and look at them, and certainly before I registered on a coin collector's website and wrote an entry asking for advice regarding the value of rare coins. What if they were Chuck E Cheese tokens?!?!
Something strange going on here.
Kiss me once, shame on you. Kiss me twice.....let's party.

What purpose do these type of posts have?
Are you worried that I spent my money on the cards and you want to be sure I didn't get ripped off? If so they were free.
I haven't looked at the cards because I have 2 jobs, both very physical and I'm tired as hell and don't want to waste what free time I have looking at cards that may be the equal of "Chuck E Cheese" tokens so I thought I would type a quick question seeing if I could narrow my search and save some time.
If I came across a box of "rare" coins I would know it but since I know nothing about cards I'm asking a question first .That way while I work my ass off all day I might come home to find a helpful message that would help me discover if there is any value here.
As for something strange going on here, what the hell are you talking about, who could I possibly hurt by asking a few questions?
I meant no offense. By the way, I collect Chuck E Cheese tokens. There are actually several series issued over the past two decades, with some rare ones, including the "three-ear Chuck" variations from the mid-80's. However, I DO NOT collect Showbiz Pizza tokens.

1989 Fleer Bill Ripken (bat knob error, numerous versions) Other 1989 Fleer errors, Johnson, Treadway, Checklist with positions listed
1990 Topps Frank Thomas No name on front error
1990 Upper Deck Mike Witt error (large Black Box on back)
1987 Donruss Opening Day Barry Bonds error (Johnny Ray pictured)
There's others. That's the biggest I can name off the top of my head. The errors are rare though and their prices reflect that.
eBest bet is hit a local card shop or library or book store and pick up a Beckett or Tuff Stuff price guide. Sort cards by year, skim the mag making a list of valuables, then check your cards.
Or spend $10 to mail them in a flat rate box from USPS and have someone sort. Or take them to a card shop. Any card the dealer want's to buy, grab it back and sell it on ebay for 3x what he offered. lol
But cards from that era were mass produced and condition is very important. Although some rarer ones, ie Witt, with a crease should still get you $200 easy, IMO.
I sure hope this guy is not related to Mintacular.
The responses thus far have been pretty straight forward , and yet the answer he is looking for has yet to appear.
You may want to check out an older group called the "Moody Blues" and their great album called "Seventh Sojourn ". There is a song there that may put all this into perspective.
I really do hope you find the answer that you need.----- Sonny

I expected as much, but I thought there might be some special card that was worth looking for. Something that has become more desiriable as years have gone past like an error card.
As for the posts suggesting some sort of deseption or alterior motive you guys lost me there.
Nathaniel1960, sorry to have gotten ugly on that one. No hard feelings thanks.
