Canseco Says Juicer/User Already In The Hall Of Fame

JackWESQJackWESQ Posts: 2,133 ✭✭✭
Jose Canseco says that a juicer/user is already in the Hall of Fame. Assuming he's telling the truth, which I can't say unequivocally that he is not, I wonder who it is. User comments to the column guess Rickey or perhaps Ripken, Jr. If it is Rickey, I would be truly bummed.

The only HoFer's that Canseco has played with are:

Wade Boggs (1998 - Devil Rays)
    Dennis Eckersley (1987 - 92 - A's)
    Rickey Henderson (1989 - 92 - A's)
    Goose Gossage (1992 - A's)
    Nolan Ryan (1992-93 - Rangers)
    Reggie Jackson (1987 - A's)
    Don Sutton (1985 - A's)

A name like Rickey, Ripken or Ryan would completely tarnish baseball. I pray it's none of those three. Eck was the first one I thought of as a possibility...

I'd be surprised if it was Ripken. Not because I think he's above it (because I don't think anyone was above it back then) but because of the lack of injuries in his career. As the commercial says, "steroids don't make great athletes, it destroys them".

Unless there are 10 year old steroid test results or urine samples laying around somewhere, I don't think we'll ever know.

Did Canseco say it was a Hall Of Famer that he played with or just one that was in the Hall?

I could see were Cal Ripken Jr. could have been tempted in doing PED's to keeping the streak going.
I could also see Rickey Henderson doing it to help him to keep on playing in the majors.

I hope it's not one of the two but they both have reasons why they both would think about trying them.

He just said that there was one in the Hall.

I listed the HoFers he played with because that's the easiest first place to look. Canseco had direct access to his teammates.

He said that Roger Clemens was clean.

The 70s-early 80s was the "Lyle Alzado" juice era. Habitual use of that stuff turned guys into sociopaths. I don't recall reading about Jackson busting his bat over anyone's head...

The biggest suspect would be Nolan Ryan. He was very close with Tom House. Very big on body enhancing.

Second biggest suspect would be Henderson...partly becuase he played into the thick of the steroid era, and he was kind of a body guy.

This is the saddest thing about the "Steroid Era" - everyone is a suspect, you can trust no one. Kinda takes the fun out of being a fan huh?

How many players that juiced do you actually recall busting bats over peoples heads?

Didn't say Jackson used his entire career. An aging player looking for an edge his last two or three years in the league. It's definitely plausible

Just because you juice doesn't mean you're gonna flip out and kill people.

because that was a totally different circle.....Canseco's supplier was West coast based and McNamee was East coast based....

kinda of like Tupac and Biggy

Don't just throw Ripkens name in the circle. Not a chance he was a user.

I was talking about the old stuff, that Alzado used, that made him a psycho.

Well, with the "new" stuff, we have Roger Clemens and his little hissy fit deal with Mike Piazza. That could have just been Clemens being an a-hole, or it could have been a little roid-rage.

Why not didn't he play on the same team that had Rafael Palmeiro, Brady Anderson, David Segui, Etc.

I guess the Ironman had no idea what was going on in his own house? Just saying....

I would have to say it was a little of both with Clemens.

If you're already a predisposed hothead, any roids will magnify that.

If you're not, chances of having a freak-out episode are pretty slim.

    What if ............

Canseco is correct, and it is actually Hendo,
who eventually confesses, or an old test comes up, or whatever, but he is clearly found to be, almost absolutely beyond a reasonable doubt, a former user of PEDS ?

Door opens for Big Mac, Barry Bonds, and Clemens ? Maybe Shoeless Joe and Pete Rose as well ?
The HOF makes it first removal ever ?
Bud Selig shrugs, and acknowledges he used Viagra ?

I don't think so. In fact, I think it might be EVEN HARDER for these guys to get in if Rickey is found to have been a user. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice ...

<< <i>Maybe Shoeless Joe and Pete Rose as well ? >>

I am convinced that as long as Bud is commissioner, neither of these individuals will ever become eligible for the Hall of Fame.

<< <i>The HOF makes it first removal ever ? >>

Are there even grounds for removal? I don't think so, but I could be wrong. However, if a player were to be removed, I could see a lawsuit coming.

Looks like I was wrong. Lee apologizes to Rickey. Lee is a big enough man to admit when he's wrong.

Well if Canseco is always right, then there's only a 20% chance that any HOF inductee who played during the last 20 years didn't use steroids.

I just assume that everybody was doing something and leave it at that.
