He's advertising it as questionable authenticity. I must be missing something. What's he doing wrong?

  • am i missing something here? He submitted a card, it came back as questionable authenticity, and he's trying to pass off authtct as "authentic".

Mullins5, what card are you trying to say he switched?

That was my initial reaction but it's against eBay's policy to sell counterfeit cards and to the inexperienced hobbyist, they may think that this is the real thing. The description is misleading, if it is not real then flat out say that the card is a fake.

Also, the seller knows he is in the wrong, his auction is only for 1 day, which shows he knows that eBay would pull the auction down if it were on longer than that.

I don't see where he questions the authenticity. It's a reprint and he was probably the guy who switched it.

Item specifics - Sports Trading Cards
    Original/Reprint:
    -- Card Attributes: Rookie
    Product: -- Sport: Hockey-NHL
    Professionally Graded: Yes
    Professional Grader: Professional Sports (PSA)

    ..............

Technically - and IN FACT - the card was never "graded."

PSA does not knowingly "grade" counterfeit cards.

A card is first "authenticated," THEN "graded."

The card was found to be NOT authentic, and was NOT graded.

His claim that the card was "graded" is FALSE, and does not
    correctly disclaim authenticity.

His garbage is also listed in the wrong cat.

On his Jordan scam, his lingo is designed to mislead AND

The seller is a TINY scamster, BUT should still be shutdown.

He is targeting new folks, and folks that are stupid, and
    folks that are greedy.

It appears unwise to do biz with EBAY seller colejacob0103.

He "specializes" in selling COUNTERFEIT cards that can easily
be passed-off as genuine to unknowing folks.

I wonder how many of those reprints are circulating the hobby as authentic
  • MULLINS5MULLINS5 Posts: 4,517 ✭✭✭
I have some, some have reprint stamped on back, others do not, but I would never pass one off as authentic, and im scared to sell any without the reprint stamp because they could eventually end up in scammers hands

EBAY seller colejacob0103 does not share your fear.

ANY seller that has bought from the guy might be a
good one to be suspicious of.

MULLINS, if you happen to have a reprint without the stamp, and the authentic version to go with it, could you please post a scan?

I think it could benefit a lot of people, as I know it would benefit me.

    Thank you!

Definitely designed to mislead, but at least he does display the ?Auth sticker from PSA so people who are at least semi-educated on the subject know it is a fake.

It this works, PSA will be flooded with fake Gretzkys to be rejected and sold on eBay as Questionable Authenticity.

Are people really this averse to work?

I reported the listing with 17 hours left, it was only a 24 hour auction...when I saw that it only had 3 hours left I called eBay to talk to someone and have them remove it, the woman said, "oh i see (when looking at the listing) while this is a violation there is nothing eBay can do with it being a 24 hour listing because there is not enough time to review the listing. This is how they get away with selling counterfeit material <---- her exact words"

PSA needs to stop putting that sticker on fake cards.

    from the revised listing......

"On Jul-29-09 at 21:53:23 PDT, seller added the following information:"

"JUST TO CLEAR THINGS UP ON THE GRETZKY ROOKIE P.S.A. HAS QUESTIONED IF THIS CARD IS AUTHENTIC OR NOT BUT P.S.A IS NOT SURE AND I AM NOT SURE SO BID ACCORDINLEY THAT IS WHY P.S.A PUT AUTHNTC ????????? ON THERE LABEL. HOPE THIS HELPS"

    from EBAY's TOS........

"Sellers may not disclaim knowledge of, or responsibility for, the authenticity or legality of the items offered in their listings.Sellers should take steps to ensure that their items are authentic before listing them on eBay. If a seller cannot verify the authenticity of an item, the seller is not permitted to list it."

    Some Examples

The following statements violate eBay's Authenticity Disclaimer Policy:

"I cannot guarantee the authenticity of this item, so please bid accordingly."

    "Vintage Handbag Chanel???"

“Looks like it could be a Louis Vuitton bag”

“I believe this is painted by Degas, but can’t be sure.”
