Solid move. I dont like having that many LHPs (Esp if we have to face the Cards in the playoffs) but to get a pitcher of that caliber without giving up anything off the major league roster OR any of the top flight prospects is a good deal IMHO.

Anyone know his contract status? Do they have him for next year as well?

  • Bet there's a lot of frustration in Toronto right now. The old saying "Poo or get off the pot" holds true again. Now who will Halladay go to? The Red Sox have expressed interest, but they're a division rival. Methinks Toronto dropped the ball.

    SI Story on Lee trade

Let's not forget about Ben Francisco, he's no slouch. They might as well have traded these two guys for a beer and a couple hot dogs. What a waste. This makes two years in a row where the Tribe trades away a reigning Cy Young award winner, while getting nothing in return.
  • he has a year and 2 months left so in essence the phils have lee next year as well...

didnt have to give up happ or drybek, or the other 2 every day players they like.

huge pickup and gave up very little ...

if the trade is true, it really sucks. The Indians are trying their best to rid themselves of all their fans.......al.

Phillies are flying high right now...fresh off a World Series title last season and looking for another...I'm not used to this in Philadelphia pro sports...this here championship stuff. LOL

But there's some tough teams to beat in the playoffs - it still won't be easy.

Unbelievable.......we'll never see the late '90s again Al.

His record doesn't show it but I'm sure I don't have to tell you Philly fans you are getting one hell of a pitcher.

and they wonder why all the kids in the Cleveland suburbs are wearing Dodger and Yankee hats....Indians have no plan whatsoever, so it seems. About the only thing they do have now is NO PITCHING whatsoever....

nice deal for the phillies, he's no halliday but they didn't have to give up that much either. we'll see what pedro gives them from the right side.

As a Tribe fan it is very sad to let Lee go. He's logged the most innings in the league with a good era. The Tribe is trying to do what they can to free up $, but from the fan's perspective it looks bad. I do remember the Bartolo deal for Lee, Sizemore and Phillips. It doesn't appear to be that good right now, but it looks like it will take a few years to see how these guys will work out. C.C. trade doesn't look to stellar yet with LaPorta, but it does seem these young players are going to get their chances in the coming years as that is about all we have in the organization left. Except Grady with a bum elbow, Hafner with a tweaked shoulder that needs rest and Victor. Oh what does the future hold?!

Sigh.....Tribe ownership is starting to act like the ownership in Major League. We need Willie Mays Hayes and company to restore hope.

Hey Doug! That card looks familiar!

This trade is better than most trades the Phils make. Although I vaguely remember another time when Von Hayes was traded away from the Phils. Was it Lenny Dykstra who commented on that trade by saying "Great trade! Who did we get?"

5 hitter gives up one run and goes 2-4 at the plate.

I gotta give Philly upper mngt credit, no way Halladay can hit like Lee.

Ah, the prophecy of doom. Counting a 3-peat when the repeat will not even happen...... now.

Hope you're proud of yourself for ruining it for Phillies fans everywhere Steve.

Is this true? Phillies are now 'stealing' other teams players?

Geez what is the world coming too?

First we get a mercenary (Ibanez) and now a 'steal'

I was always under the impression that they only used players that they developed.

At least from what Stevek touts.

    Steve
    Good for you.
