Not getting much help on the PM forum, anyone know anything about Panadas here? Pics included

1982 1/10 oz. gold panda (proof)
1994 1/10 oz. platnium panda (proof)
2004 1/2 oz. palladium panda (proof)
1989 1 oz. silver panda (proof)

The coins are very nice and my first pandas, are any of these tougher coins as I am having a hard time locating mintages and prices on these. The set is in a blue velvet box, with a certificate that says The Commemorative Palladium Coin of Chinese Panda 2004- No. 007727.

Any help on value and mintages would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Jeff

Judging from the aftermarket airtights the coins are housed in, I would say this set would go a bit above spot. depending on the dealer or on ebay traffic and interest.

I have a few of these, including the Palladium Half Ouncer, which I paid a bit over spot for.

Most of my Pandas garner my attention yet very little Numsimatic value.

  • Let's just say Gecko and I don't see eye to eye on things, so we chose to avoid each others company. I am sure some one else out there knows mintages and values on Pandas.

These are the mintages posted at the PandaUsa website (CE Collection)

    Silver Pandas

    Gold Pandas

    Platinum Pandas

These are some prices from The DMDor's Journal (dated 2008):

There's a few dealers out there that could help you too. There's a seller on eBay, Yee Ren, always willing to help. I hope this helps!

Thanks for the link. Some day I'll have to dig out the Pandas I acquired years ago and see where they fit on that chart.

The 1 oz Silver and the 1/10 oz Gold and the 1/10 Platinum coins are BU not proof. I haven't studied Palladium Panda's but I don't think it is a Proof either.

The 1982 1/10 oz Gold had a mintage of 77,598 pcs.

The 1989 1 oz Silver mintage was 255,000 pcs.

The 1994 1/10 oz Platinum mintage was 2500 pcs

There were no proof 1982 1/10 oz Panda's and if the 1989 1 oz Silver was a proof it would a P with a circle around it on the Panda side which is actually the reverse. The temple side is the obverse.

It is confusing as BU Panda's have a Proof-like appearance but are not considered as Proof's.

To confuse you even more most of the years of Proof Panda's have the circled P on the reverse but some years don't. image

Prices vary widely on these coins from a low of spot to whatever the market will bear. The 1982 1/10 oz usually brings a nice premium and sometimes double spot. I know I have about $240 in my PCGS MS69 example. The 1994 Platinum should bring a large premium also. If I recall correctly the last one I saw on eBay had a HUGE price tag on it but I don't recall exactly what it was? The 1989 silver is common and sells for $20 - $40 raw.

Get them in PCGS MS69 holders and the prices go UP!!!!!

Some of us have zero interest in Pandas. There are much better bullion alternatives. As collectibles... don't you already have enough made in China stuff in your house?
  • Well, I happen to love the Pandas. Only have a couple silver ones but love the different designs they come up with. At least I feel sure those Chinese coins are authentic and pure.
Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.

the cert says 1/2 oz pallad but you say its 1/4 oz........what is it? A discrepancy sounds like it could be a fake like some of those fake olympic silver sets that are being sold on ebay

I love the silver Pandas. I only have 5-6 of them, but I like how the proof and silvery mixture on the bear make it look like their natural color. My wife has no interest in coins and she loves the pandas for their "cuteness"

The Palladium Panda looks to be a 1/2 oz to me from the size of it. Much too big for a 1/4 oz.

They look OK to me,,,, I don't think they are fake. It is a put together set my someone other than the Chinese Mint.

The platinum coin if authentic is worth far more than spot. Ebay has auction prices, also check out pandacollector.com
