POLL: Whats the highest dollar amount coin you would send through the mail NOT insured?

Lets say you were sending a gift, or something of a similar nature to a relative through the USPS. Even though you know there wont be any shenanigans on the receiving end, whats the highest dollar amount you would send before you decided you needed to insure the item?

In the last few months, I have sent out several hundred packages by US mail. All but one was delivered.

But would you do this Julian?
  • I typically do not insure shipments. I sent $200 worth of coins to a boardster last week without insurance.

I usually send valuable coins express mail, in the large envelope or the box.

Gets there the next day, I have tracking for all its stops. There is a token insurance that goes with the shipment at no charge.

never had a problem with express mail. $17.50 well spent.

Everything goes ( in and out ) with insurance.

I've sent packages before with $15,000 in gold insured for $5,000 through USPS. I've never had a legitimate problem with USPS and I think insurance for anything valued under a few thousand dollars is for the paranoid.

When I sell from my collection...... everything is fully insured with no exception. If I buy and it's not fully insured..... it's the last time I buy from that person, no exceptions.

Anything above about $20 I insure (and anything of any value sold on eBay). Of course I'm using a 3rd-party insurer, so it's more cost-effective than USPS insurance...

One of my dealers sends Express Mail
    - and has a separate insurance policy -
and when I send things to them, I use his account.

I'm expecting a valuable coin this afternoon and I
feel confident there won't be any problems.
