Sadly, you can already see the best cards without opening it.

Not a lot of value in keeping it closed ... MAYBE you can find a low pop mint card inside (but probably in ex/mt condition at best)

  • I love those christmas packs, I would definetly keep it sealed!

Do you have a pic? You can use Tinypic.com to upload a pic if you have them saved on your computer...

I know that the Xmas racks are resealed, but I think it makes a cool looking piece. I'd buy one if they were cheap enough, knowing that if there ever was something that age, I couldn't even come close to affording it.
    I'd leave it

  • << <i>I know that the Xmas racks are resealed >>

None are resealed and none were ever produced by Topps. Most are flat out fakes. The rest were made in the 70s or even the 80s with leftovers from Topps. Can't seem to find the Steve Hart interview, but Steve basically said that the chances of any of them being legit are the same as winning the lottery 3 times.

Scan it, then open it, then scan the results.

I remember years upon years ago, Mark Murphy had some Christmas packs for sale in Tuff Stuff.

Im curious to see if these are the same "style"

Murphy is also another one I would trust when it comes to vintage unopened wax. Its to bad he lost a lot of it due to the fire.
  • flatfoot816flatfoot816 Posts: 2,194 ✭✭✭
Murphy is THE GUY who started selling all that crap. Since he was trusted in the hobby...most everyone thought that they were legit and bought them on his word....including me, who picked up a "nice " '62 and '55 Christmas Rack. I still recall his ad in SCD...he made a boatload of $$ on the "racks".

Trust him? Not to save my cat (and I do not own one). IMO, he used this as his last hurrah...made his cash, and then moved on. Yes he had the fire -- which I wish on no one. But what goes around usually comes around.

Keep it or open it? Doesn't matter.

I agree with CSM. Scan it, open it, and then show us what was inside. Open it up and have a peek and good luck!

They are simply re packs that were produced well after the date of the cards.

It torched his inventory and knocked him out of commission for months. By the time he had a few things to put up on his website, his business had gone elsewhere.

    "...Trust him?..."

    /////////////////////////////////

I would "trust" him, IF he was working for me as a PAID consultant.
He knows a lot of stuff.

IF he was selling goofy/fantasy items, I would not likely "trust" that
they were necessarily good to go.

That would be a fun rip, some egg nog, a little Bing on the ole' 45 rpm, smoking vest, pipe, slippers, and a rip of a fake 1965 Topps Christmas pack. Then more egg nog spiked with some serious booze. Then set the tree on fire when you pass out and the pipe falls out of your mouth. You know how the rest of the story goes....

My point was regarding the insurance settlement he received.

So, it may seem it was not that bad.
