On p.1 Coin World is reporting that the Mint may be backing away from producing the gold proof Buff this year.
The burnished Unc. version (with the W mint mark) also seems to be MIA this year (but I think that may already have been known).

If the proofs aren't required by law but the MS are, and the mint is scrambling to get some buffalos made, then I guess it is possible they would scrap the proof in favor of the MS but this is the first I've heard of it. --Jerry
This seems to be new news...my Coin World online edition hit only about an hour ago.

Maybe, but I see plenty of replicas on eBay!

<< <i>I haven't seen CW. The last I heard they were planning to make the proof 1 oz (as per the announcement last year) AND the MS bullion coin. It was reported a week or two ago that the latter was required by law. I think we can conclude the MS burnished W coins will not be made....

Yes that's what CW says it reported awhile back while the new one released today is stating that the latest interviews with mint officials make it seem innevitable that the proof version will not be available this year.
That said the article does mention a sizable amount of blank planchets in house with more on the way incase they do go through with it.
