The value of opposing views

In the scientific community, once a theory or experiment
is presented in a paper, it is not accepted until it has been
reviewed and retested by a number of other scientists. So too
is the field of numismatics. We make statements on this Forum
which may be correct, partially correct or flat out wrong. It is thru
discussion and polite disagreement, that the light of knowledge
is often obtained. In the search for truth, reason dictates that no
offense should be intended or perceived.
I have found that if everyone always agreed with one another, on
everything, this would be a rather dull Forum indeed. So, when ever
I make a statement please, feel free to challenge or argue ,with no
fear of ever raising the wrath of the bear.Of course, I always reserve
the right to gnaw on folks , just for the heck of it.

<< <i>I oppose this view. >>
i oppose your opposition to the view your opposing, but basically agree with the OP.
<< <i>I certainly agree in principle, but reasoned discourse is limited to only a few members of this vast membership. The others tend to blustering rejection or vociferous profundities founded in nothing but opinion. I do weary of some, but have the fortuitous ability to disregard the pompous and ignore those who are mainly here to support their own ego. Cheers, RickO >>
that is all too common here among the click. I tend to ignore that aspect as I have found a lot of knowledge and information here.
many of us are regular collectors not the elite and I am one of those that collect for fun and many of the posters collections a single coin would be more valuable then my whole collection I would bet. Those seem to be the ones with the strongest opinions and most drama, filter it out and use the board as it was intended i sure do.
boards tend to be "meanest" and least tolerant of heresy or
controversial ideas.
Numismatics does have a very strong "history" component.
Of course you can find "mean" almost anywhere including the
rocket scientist boards.

Are you talkin' ta me. I don't see no other huge dudes around here and
I think you're talkin' ta me.
All of us have the unfortunate ability to not see the things that don't fit in
with our preconcieved beliefs. We can only act on beliefs and then it can
be virtually impossible to change them.
Many of us tend to get hostile when cherished beliefs are really threatened.
This is not opinion but simple fact.
Time has always changed everything... ...except individual beliefs. But time
always wins in the long run.
At the age of 70, I know more then I did at 20. However,
I shall never know as much as I need to know or as much
as I wish to know. It is the sum total of knowledge on this
very Forum ,that always holds me in awe of what there
is to learn. In the search for knowledge and wisdom, we are
all , as children of the Cosmos.

<< <i>oops >>
I should say so.
This was probably a much better post than you left. ...And more accurate, too.
What is lawful, what is collectible, what is the stuff good folklore is made of ?
Sorry - just had to disagree with SOMETHING.
for dry cleaning.
