Yes, home prices are down a lot. On the contrary, I keep getting blown out of the water on early walkers in the auctions image

I think it is for average type pieces, however top shelf stuff seems to have held it's value, in any collectibles market, not just coins.

It's a great time to buy a home, it's a great time to sell a home. It's a great time to buy a coin, it's a great time to sell a coin.

Of course, it all depends on which house, which coin, and Why the person is making the move.

congratulations on your decision, I've never regretted buying a lovely house or coin in a nice neighborhood or numismatic sector (micro vs macro "market")

Must be nice to have enough coins to sell and buy a home.

I could sell off all the coins I owned and not afford an upgrade to this ten year old, singlewide mobile home with the faulty central air unit and nasty carpeting.

  • Of you have the cash, its a buyers market on everything.

Buying a home now is a great move if the cash is there and the price is right.

Unfortunately prices have not dropped here in Silicon Valley, at least not very much. In fact many homes are near their peak and still rising, especially in the last month or two. I'm talking specifically where I am looking, not in the general SF Bay Area which includes the outlying counties. I don't want a commute, or I could pick up bargains. We even looked at some foreclosures, but they ended up getting listed at top dollar even with major maintenance required. That said, I don't think much is actually selling, so maybe it's just a matter of time...

I sold some gold yesterday so I can buy a new car with the Cash for Clunkers program. I've heard response to this program has been so overwhelming that the available funds will likely be exhausted much sooner than anticipated.

The dealers are not yet hungry enough. In most cases, prices are still high - way to high for value. Hopefully, the recession will last another six months and drive some prices into the 'reality sector'. Cheers, RickO

I agree with Ricko, the worst has not arrived yet. There are plenty of bargins to be found but many that appear to be bargins now are not.

I do not know if you can find out how much money the IRS collects every year but i bet the amount is way down and only getting worse. Sales tax going to cities is down. When the cities burn off there cash, services will suffer and the poor people will really feel the pinch and sell off for pennies on the dollar.

I am fianally started to see coin prices falling around here. You have to find the sellers though.

Market bottoms, like peaks, are very difficult to call, most people miss them. Having you're financing/money ready to buy is a smart move , but don't miss a good opportunity because you think the "bottom" isn't here.

I'll learn a lot by 10PM tonight as well. So far I'm breaking even with a chance to make a bit of money on some coins selling on ebay. One has 50 watchers. image

Despite the high prices in Silicon Valley there is still a lot of interest in anything for sale. It's securing financing that is now the hard part. The outlying areas of the region have experienced tremendous value declines and if you're willing to live in a cookie-cutter mcmansion and commute 2 1/2 hours each way to get to work then those areas are worth looking at since there are some very good deals out in those areas.

This is what i have been thinking as of late! ....with this tech/oil/earnings rally people are fleeing coins/gold/bullion for the big gains of stocks.

Yes I did and I'll stick with my advice... what else could I say when I paid 5 times guide myself image
  • Just did the same thing. Got a great deal and used my VA loan. Didn't need money down but still needed cash to pay for moving and other incidentals so I sold off a bunch of coins.

Got cheaper to buy than rent here in SOCAL , so I sold coins and bought commercial real estate ( move in Sept 1st), feeling very leveraged at the moment , hope that I made the correct decision , will only really know in about 5 years.

I'm selling coins so I can buy a coin which will raise in value over the next few years (hopefully)
