1937 25c found in circulation!

I got this 1937 Washie in change from my local supermarket yesterday:

I asked the cashier if they had anymore of these. They opened up their cash register and went thru the rest of the quarters and then the dimes, at my request, and found nothing else that was silver. I wonder how this guy found its way into circualtion after being 70+ years old!

WOW!

I would guess that it grades G4 or so, what say y'all?

Due to the downturn in the economy, millions of jars of coins that have spent decades on the floors of closets across the country, have been cashed in. Now is a good time to serach through rolls from the bank, especially pennies. I've noticed a lot of MS cents from the 1960's in circulation lately.

Very nice. Only once or twice have I found silver dimes in circulation, and that was no later than about 1983 or so. Never a quarter, let alone one from the '30s.

A few months ago my neighbor asked me to look at the old coins he had hidden in his drawer for years. But over half of them were missing, He thinks it was his son, now 15 over the years taking one every so often and spending it.

So let me get this straight: you want your mother to take advantage of school children and pass all the rewards from this venture onto to you... man! you are one sick puppy!image

As for the coin, great find TC. Just another show case example of times being difficult!image

Congratulations, YaHa; with those pictures you're destined to be a top eBay seller!image

I got a 1945-S Jefferson silver nickel in change at Dairy Queen the other day. It drew my attention because it was almost black.

    Cartwheel

Oh, and very nice find, TC!

P.S. Talk about old habits: 45 years since silver left circulation, and I still check the edge of all the dimes and quarters I get (not so much Lincolns for wheats anymore).
  • I'm kind of shocked people are still finding these. My granddad owned a laundromat in the 80s when I was a kid going through the quarters, I usually only found about 1-2 silvers per week (out of going through endless rolls)
