Interesting 1961 Jefferson Toner

Not sure what caused this coloring as I don't usually see much color on later Jeffersons. It was sent to me a couple years ago as a gift, the dealer thought the toning was interesting and just sent it to me. (I like freebies image)

Fast forward to present time, I was cleaning up and found it hiding in my backpack so I pulled it out and took a quick shot. image

Sorry about the blur at the top, had to angle the coin to get the color. image

Nickel is my metal of choice when it comes to toning.

I'm not sure why but I have seen some beautiful examples, yours is one BECOKA. image

PF58 was the shocker I receive on a 1955 coin with 6 steps. Interesting color on your proof coin.

    My Jefferson Nickel Collection

  • There is something about the metal mix for the 1961 Jefferson proofs. I have one that is taking on nice purple and yellow hues.

  • I agree....1961 to 1963 Proof knickels are commonly toned....I would think they would be rare untoned image

Chew a raw onion and several fresh cloves of garlic... then breathe heavily on your coins for about three minutes each. Seal them in an envelope for a month or two.. and voila' - Toners. image Cheers, RickO

These two came in a plastic after market proof set holders with a black felt.

The Nickels had the best toning of all the coins in the sets.
