I'm glad they're being tight if that's what some want to call it. Grading too. Perhaps they are just getting back on track and not handing out the gift grades, and slabbing the color coins at will. Now, I would be very happy if they stopped slabbing hunks of Bullion with crayon colors.

  • << <i>I do not want to create links to anyones' PCGS certified toners nor to
coins recently placed in GENUINE holders that display the SAME EXACT
    type toning.

Suffice to say that tonight I saw such a coin and the toning is EXACTLY
the same as some prior PCGS 67. It, however, is in a GENUINE holder.
This, I DO NOT comprehend & is the reason for this thread.

Something pretty darned significant inevitably MUST have transpired
recently within the Numismatic Community to so profoundly affect
BOTH tpgs. Somehow, I knew this would one day come to be & it's
here - NOW! And NO, personally, I DO NOT believe it's Fear of CAC.

This may prove to be a somewhat challenging thread, especially
without photographs but we CAN DO THIS! CIVILLY. >>

  • Politics & Power!!! these are the unjust realities of toners and slighlty cleaned coins that sneak through with a grade instead of being slabbed as Genuine. Cash Money and an inside connection probably has something to do with it too. This is a great thread that I plan to keep an eye on!!! It would be great to have a fair grading field for all whether it be a poor man's dollar or millionaire's half cent.

Ummmmm, WOW! Im not sure what to ask, but Ill try. So you think PCGS works with some coin doctors and slabs ATed coins knowingly?

  • << <i>"Surely, professional graders CAN tell the difference ..."

Actually they can't and a lot of AT coins are in slabs because the "professionals" got it wrong. Now they err on the side of caution, which means a lot of NT coins go into "genuine" holders. >>

Sad but true on that comment!!!!!!!

Correct me if I am wrong but let's face it toning comes from a reaction between a coin and another substance

That being said many natural toning events are in the eye of the beholder because when you think about it and really think about it - was that a TOTALLY natural reaction that caused the toning or not - this is something to ponder when evaluating a toned coin whether is beautiful, ugly, end of roll, stashed away in a unconventional hiding place, etc.

The one "ray of sunshine" is the Dansco album. Even if the TPG's won't slab the coin, it will still look great in a Dansco. Maybe it's a natural progression type thing, and it is going full circle. Perhaps , in the next decade, collectors will return to albums, and shun the slabs....
