Shipping costs on a $265 coin...$12.90?
![notwilight](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/userpics/180/nITNHVR7JQEPK.jpg)
Bought a coin on ebay today. Shipping was $12.90 as stated in the listing--about $8 for priority mail (flat rate envelope is $4.95) and $4.85 for required insurance (I'm pretty sure it's less than that). If I sell a coin of that value it ships for less than $4 by first class mail with signature confirmation....What would you do?
I'm thinking I'll thank him for making me look good as a seller. BTW, I've already paid without comment.

You can ask for a lower rate, but if it is not given, you need to understand you should have asked before bidding. When ever I bid on a coin I take the shipping/insurance into consideration.

I think it is really a matter of personal preference for shipping.

I guess if its a brick & mortar shop with an employee handling all shipping then its fairly reasonable.
I charge below average shipping prices with many shipped free.
Complaining about it is moot since most bidders consider that in their bid price. If you have higher shipping you get less. You probably got it for $10 less than if he had reasonable shipping unless its a bin auction.
account when you bid. Therefore, you probably STOLE the coin. Need to provide auction

Actual cost to the seller:
Electronic Priority Label .......................................................................$4.80
Insurance.............................................................................................$4.70
Signature Confirmation...required by PayPal for all sales over $250....$1.95
You do the math to see if he overcharged you.
That's one of the reason I look for free shipping auctions.
Hoard the keys.
<< <i>What would you do? >>
Assuming the shipping charge was listed in the auction, I'd do what you did- pay the seller. The time to take a stand on the question of "excessive shipping" is before you bid.
But you already know that, right?
As long as you factored it into your auction bid then what's the big commotion?

agree 100%
I say it every time I see one of these threads. What does it matter if the coins was $90 & shipping is $10 or shipping is $90 & Coin is $10? They both equal $100!
...why comment here?

Then you have to buy the bubble wrap, buy the box, keep the inventory, etc. Its a pain, so I use priority boxes for everything over $50, its too much hassle to deal with lost packages, damaged goods, etc.

Just because I know this is a favorite subject here.
I agree the coins should be sent for #4 without insurance but know that some don't agree and I wouldn't argue with them.
One point made above--maybe he didn't separate out the signature confirmation. My initial thought was that he was wasting several $ on insurance while not getting the sig conf... but maybe that is $2 I didn't figure in.
I don't know if I stole it or not but it went for less than my snipe...it is in an RB holder but looks BN. I paid BN money for it. We'll see what it looks like in hand. It is my father's birthyear. I haven't been able to find a nice RD so I thought I'd grab this one, at least for the interim. Since they mob hasn't accumulated to lynch the seller I'll go ahead and post the link.the link.

Take your threats and spam them too
I call 'em like I see 'em. Almost every post you do, you point out your sales and how "great of a seller you are". Am I wrong about that? Are you saying we won't find that in most of your posts?

serriously, jut look at how much pcgs charges for return shipping, if you do a quarterly freebie submission per se, than you have to pay a minimum of $18 for 1 coin and you can't have them combine it with another order(which it seems like it wouldnt be that hard to do afterall you can send it to them in 1 package, kind of wasteful imo), it cant possibly cost them that much for 1 coin, so everyone is making a little off the shipping, just how it goes

<< <i>Fact of the matter is, since the seller is 100% responsible for getting the coin to you, he can send it any way he feels comfortable with. >>
You're right here. The seller chose priority mail, which some prefer over first class. The seller chose to insure an inexpensive coin at the high USPS rates. Bottom line is, about $9 were wasted. Not scammed but wasted.
Bochi, you need to get back on your meds. Your delusions are getting worse.

Oh, and I recently paid $15 in shipping cost to a seller to ship a coin I paid $110 for, and was happy to do so!

A B&M shop is an actual coin store that you can walk into to buy or sell coins as opposed to an internet web site dealer.

The only problem with the above statement is whenever I try to buy electronic signature I have to buy insurance and
pay priority rates. Electronic signature is the one PP uses.

I know that you factored in this price of the shipping in calculating your bid, so you did not spend more than you expected. I do agree that priority mail, in many cases, is a waste of money, compared to first class. Over time, the amount of money wasted adds up.

I was just pointing out that it can be done if one has the materials available. What smoeone wants to do is up to them. If several sources are available, I'm more likely to avoid those sellers who I think go overboard/use overkill on shipping.

If you ship 4 different orders to PCGS in the same package, its kind of obvious that they don't wish to go to the hassle of coordinating and keeping track of them until all are fished and then return them all in the same package. If your regular submission sat around for 45 days waiting for an economy job to get done, you'd likely be unhappy about that too.
