  • << <i> Why would you chase after what you feel is the most difficult coin in the series you concern yourself most with, only to sell the choicest example you've ever found?? i've promoted and chased the dates in my favorite series and keep the best coins when i find them, but that's just me. >>

You've only got it about 25% right. That 25% being the part about the chase.

Like yourself, I am distressed by the strike designation inconsistencies at the TPG's. The way the standards have fluxed over time.

But I was collecting Franklins for some years before PCGS's inception and even then was never a FBL collector. Correct me if I am

wrong, but I think you were collecting Full Steppers before PCGS put their muddy boot in that pail of water.

So, yes, I am always in the hunt for GEM Franklins but do not collect GEM FBL Franklins.

At the CSNS show last year I was going through a box of 2x2'ed Frank's. There was a run of maybe 12-15 coins obviously from a

nice original roll. I pulled out 3 or 4 that looked like 66 material and then went back thru checking all the mintmarks looking for the

s/s. Only then, and only by chance, did I notice the bell lines. I was not (though that has likely changed after this!) one of those

guys that flips over EVERY 53-S and checks the bell lines on autopilot. I do, however, flip over every 1901 quarter.image

It's not the kind of Franklin I collect. I seek coins that are high end for the grade or are beautifully toned. This coin is neither.
Hardly "the choicest example you've ever found"!

I hope I have answered your other question.

This one ? well, I guess I answered it as well.image

    << <i>What '62-D are you referring to Paul? >>

The 62-D Q that bushy bought raw for less then 50$ at a show and got a PCGS 67 grade ......Teletrade called it a Rainbow ( it sure was). and it sold for a cool 14,000.00$

or somewhere around there , at Teletrade. Again you young whippersnapper - a quick search will yield a couple of nice posts that will tell you the whole story .

Me ? I wouldn't be bragging how I bought a coin for 25$ and sold it for 35 grand , not publicly , in writing anyway .....for all to see -including Uncle Sam

Add the two coins together , and some one's paying on close to 50 g's in capitol gains taxes
