What do you know about this plaque? Are there a lot of copies of the original around?

Looks like the auction was pulled...with no bids.

The auction was pulled, and the bids were cancelled. That usually means that someone made the seller an offer he couldn't refuse.

Heritage has sold several of these plaques. Without going to check the archives, my memory says something in the $1000-3000 range.

I was recently told that there are fakes/reproductions known. I have been looking for one of these too, let me know if you find 2! :-)

That was what I was looking for, what anyone knows about repro's, copies, etc.

Here's some copy/pasta for you: link which you may have already found ...

It's a solicitation site, and a little goofy, but it seems to have some useful images of different versions of the plaque.

Thanks for posting the link. I had the chance to buy one on Ebay 10 years ago but did not bid. It sold for $78. I slap myself every time I see one.

The item that was in that eBay auction is a reproduction - it's a piece of junk. I almost got stuck with one many years ago. From what I understand they were cast at a foundry in New Jersey sometime in the 1970s.

Here is a real one mounted on green marble.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

What are the diagnostics to identify a reproduction?

I wonder if the seller knows something we don't. He pulled the auction and relisted it at $2500.
    New listing

Did Brenner do any of the smaller versions that are about 3 x 4, or are they all repros?
