If there was a filed criminal case against Big Ben, this might be worth reporting. A civil suit is often a hunt for $ from a deep pocket, and without a companion criminal case, it signifies that something might be fishy here....

I am a former criminal prosecutor, and, in my opinion, if there is any decent criminal case against a famous person, most any elected DA would drool at the opportunity to file and WIN such a case.

    Just my thoughts.

I believe the incident pre-dates the SB win.

Rape cases are among the most difficult to criminally prosecute successfully.

A consent defense is a powerful weapon, especially when combined with
the skillful trashing of a complaining "victim."

Following the fiasco of the "Duke Lacrosse Rape Scandal," many prosecutors
have become a little gun shy. They like trials, BUT only if they KNOW they
    can WIN.

A civil action is often the best chance a genuine victim has to prevail. And,
unfortunately, the best chance for a scamstress to extort money.

Link to a PDF copy of the lawsuit from Pittsburgh Post Gazette

I have never read anything like this before, and I must say its a very interesting read.

The other 8 defendants are employees of Harrah's casino, who are accused of ignoring the victims complaints and telling her Roethlisberger could have anyone he wants. The plantiff was a Harrah's employee.

  • Interesting. I hope it's not true.

This is about as likely to be true as it is that Michael Jackson fathered his kids.
  • Reaction to this is certainly different than when Kobe was accused of something similar...

I read the lawsuit..sure sounds like a coverup but that's only one side of the story.

I think part of it because there was a criminal investigation right after the Kobe incident, this one happened supposedly last summer and was not reported then.

ESPN is really good at keeping the lid on "uncomfortable" stuff.

Today, they run the "McNair was drunk when the psycho-witch shot him,"
but ignore the "Big Ben gets sued for alleged rape" story.

Bizarre Twist in Roethlisberger Assault Case

Posted Jul 21st 2009 10:24AM by TMZ Staff

Sources connected to the Ben Roethlisberger sexual assault case claim the psychiatric care the accuser says she's under has nothing to do with Ben .... it has to do with a relationship she had with a man who never existed.

Andrea McNulty has sued Roethlisberger, the Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl champ, claiming he sexually assaulted her in July 2008. Sources tell us Roethlisberger and McNulty had a sexual liaison at the time but Ben insists it was purely consensual. We're told the two knew each other because Ben had stayed at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe over the last several years for golf tournaments -- and she worked at the hotel.

Sources connected with the case tell us a former co-worker of McNulty's at Harrah's came forward with this incredible story -- that around the time McNulty hooked up with Roethlisberger, she was allegedly involved with a married man. The man's wife, we're told, created an email account, posing as a U.S. soldier in Iraq. The wife began corresponding with McNulty to gain information. We're told the former co-worker has said McNulty fell in love with the fictitious soldier and began telling people she was engaged to him. When the wife stopped the correspondence, McNulty then began telling people the soldier was killed in action.

We're told McNulty told at least one co-worker she began seeing a psychiatrist because of the phantom soldier.

We tried repeatedly getting in touch with McNulty. So far we have been unable to reach her.

Andrea McNulty’s Sex Suit Against Ben Roethlisberger Gets Even More Confusing

    July 21, 2009

Total Pro Sports - So you have likely heard about the story of Big Ben Roethlisberger's sexual law suit which was filed by Andrea McNulty, an employee at Harrah's Hotel in Lake Tahoe.

The news was delivered last night just after 7 o'clock by Pro Football Talk, who stated that a suit has been filed in Nevada against Roethlisberger and several other's who may have worked with McNulty, but details remain unclear as to what his connection to the case is.

McNulty claims that Roethlisberger lured her into a hotel room and sexually assaulted her, but Big Ben claims that it was consensual. His lawyer had the following to say about the incident:

"The timing of the lawsuit and the absence of a criminal complaint and a criminal investigation are the most compelling evidence of the absence of any criminal conduct." [PFT]

This has led several individuals and media outlets to be skeptical of the charges. Even ESPN was not buying it and released a "do not report" memo to all its outlets and reporters, which stated the following:

"WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY RELIABLE SOURCES THIS REPORT IS NOT TRUE. We did NOT report it yesterday. Today, the NFL responded to the report, saying even if (he) did this he did not break any league rules. We are NOT reporting it today, because that would mean airing the erroneous report. DO NOT REPORT IT." [PFT]

This would help explain why ESPN has yet to report the incident on their television or their website.

Now, in the latest edition of this saga, TMZ is reporting some rather interesting facts about the turbulent life of Mcnulty: Facts? Really? ROTFL!

[TMZ]

Where the next turn in this case will take us? I don't even want to know. Let's just hope it doesn't end with a sexual assult rap, like the one that came out of Kobe Bryant's case. Stay tuned!

Bettis was in a situation a few years back where a woman accused him of assaulting her. That story fell through pretty fast. This may linger a while because most people don’t remember what happened on some random night a year ago.
