Its a high grade but very low eye appeal. Should be in a genuine only holder.
<< <i>I've got an 1853 quarter that looks like it could be that coin's twin. It's in an ANACS AU Details slab. Since I've have only books and the forums to teach me so far, I've been buying some cleaned stuff so I can learn what it looks like. It seems to be helping, but a lot of you guys would probably get nauseous around my collection. >>
Don't feel bad, any collector that tells you they have never bought a cleaned coin either has never bought a coin or is lying.
<< <i>Hairlines!?! Yikes! >>
And the seller states it's undergraded??
<< <i>I'm not entirely convinced that those are hairlines. My guess is that it's just ordinary contact marks from circulation, but the poor image quality (way too much direct lighting) is exaggerating the imperfections, thus making the coin look a lot worse than it really is. Someone might want to mention this to the seller and ask if he/she can post better quality photos. >>
Yeah, it's a crap image so who knows?

Eye appeal has to do with collector preference, the TPG's supply a grade. If it meets the standards - it grades. Your statement is illogical.
