Richard Nachbar's "Secret Coin Hoard" in Coin World Pg. 47

Issue's ad tells of a 10.5 TON Estate purchase that had me wanting for more details.
If Paul Gilkes is reading, I would hope he would please jump on this story as it needs way more detail.

Just like this dealers ads.
Consider even if it was all 90% silver it would have only been in range of $3.5 million.
Far more likely it was mostly pennies, nickels and clad coinage.
I wouldn't be surprised if net was well below $1 million

<< <i>That story stretches the limits of credulity. It could be true, however, I would have thought a)It would have received more publicity, b) What was the total value? c) How could such a hoard have been accumulated? And I am sure there are many more valid questions. Truly amazing story as written... Cheers, RickO >>
Exactly!
Keets had started a nice thread on Hoards.....
I give away money. I collect money.
I don’t love money . I do love the Lord God.
I think you're just jealous that someone's collection weighed more than yours. But at least it was close.

2 Tons vs. 10.5 Tons
Thanks Andy

That's what I'm thinking as well - though it says accumulated over several decades, I'm guessing they were recent decades. I doubt there was any really substantial numismatic material (apart from the 45 gold coins mentioned), unless by accident - would nice, expensive collector coins been stored in cardboard boxes in a barn? I've always been a little skeptical of his claims anyway; as a middleman selling primarily to other dealers (who probably buy at 'back of bid'), how strong can his buy prices be? But I believe he is a person of integrity....my only personal dealing was at a FUN show, I saw him set up and offered him some original type coins in VF/XF.....he said he didn't handle that material, and directed me to other dealers. Probably too 'nickel/dime' for him, as he'd prefer to spend his time chasing big game.
