Putting proofs in albums.

I know some of you guys object to the idea of proofs in an album.

But I know some of you do or have done it.

For those who do, what is the best way to get them in without any damage?

Cheers

Wear cotton gloves and you'll be fine. No big whoop.

I agree. Be sure to center it so the slides (if the album has slides) don't scratch it from the front or back also.

  • Use the cointainers first. They are abit snug to get in there, but youll be glad you did.

Just be carefull with the coin and gloves aren't needed. Watch that the slides don't rub on the coin, keep it well centered in the spot. I've used the non-sticky side of a post it note to push them into the slot with much success and zero damage.

One of the coolest sensations is the feel of a reeded edge Proof coin between thumb and forefinger. A rather sharp and distinct tactile experience! image

i disagree. seems like people always give out this very bad piece of advice. cotton gloves are NOT NICE to proof coins.

cover your finger w/ fresh handiwrap, then press the coin ALL THE WAY IN to the slot. you will never have a problem. i have like at least 1000 proof coins in albums, never had the slightest problem

When it comes to copper Proof coins, you can take all of these precautions, and the piece can still go bad on you. They can go bad in the mint case too, sometimes for no discernable reason. Sometimes preserving copper Proofs is like trying to preserve last Christmas’s snowballs in pristine condition.

I buy Proofs in slabs that have been in holder for a while and leave them in there. Then I store the slab at a constant temperature in low humidity environment. Using that strategy I have not had any pieces go bad on me … yet.
