Opinions on this Trade Dollar and ANI Please?

Has anyone heard of American Numismatic Investments as a TPG? How do they compare? Any experiences?

Also, can you give your opinion on this Trade dollar. No reverse pic.

ive never heard of them. Just take my advice.
Look at the coin..do you like it? do you agree with the grade? are there any problems with it? is it being offered for a fair price?
Show it to a friend of yours for a second opinion...that never hurts.
If you do the following and still like it, buy it. You can always cross it to PCGS later.

Always buy the coins that YOU like, regardless of what the slab may be.

I have seen some ANI green labels

they seemed like overgraded problem coins

stuff like MS67 Morgans that PCGS might grade MS63

So are the different color slabs similar to PCI Gold, Green, Blue and Red?

    edited for spelling.

There's only one problem with that strategy, how do you know the coin isn't a counterfeit?

I believe the coin is counterfeit. The denticles are way off. Never heard of that grading company either.

    I agree.

I was trying to get a look at the "4" in the date. The coloring around it looks goofy to me?
  • Halfhunter06Halfhunter06 Posts: 1,332 ✭✭✭
i agree, the devices seem very granular while the surface looks fairly smooth. May be a spark erosion counterfeit
  • ANI is a self slabber I believe. The sellers name is antiquities bureau or numismatic bureau or something like that. Out of Minneapolis I believe or somewhere thereabouts.

Self slabber says it all for me.

I don't believe it's real. But, then again, it may be the image. Dentils from 6 to 8 are off.
Extreme central weakness. Raised lines to left of date and raised area at 3 near star and rim.

    100% fake. ANI= plural of "A-N-*-S"

The coin is unreal...and I don't mean that in a flattering way. The dead giveaway are the denticles from 6 to 7 o'clock.

    Wow they moved! or gotsold.
Maybe Andy bought them ( a notorious raw coin seller from that area). He's been around for a loong time on ebay and yahoo (defunct but dates him).

I wouldn't touch it. To me, it looks 99.9% counterfeit.

I have seen many coins at local shops and flea markets in ANI holders. Most of the ones I've seen, IMHO, are over-graded by at least 3 points. I am no expert on trade dollars, so I will not comment on this coin.

A lot of them end up in the Junk (Garbage) bin at local shops.

Even fly by night slabbers may, at times, have coins worth purchasing. That being said, this one is counterfeit, so pass on it.
