New Addition 1871 CC Carson City $10 - Bought Raw on Ebay - Guess the PCGS grade - Edit with results

Here's the sellers pictures:

I sent it in express for grading and Trueview.
Here's the Trueview:

So what do you think??

Edit with results:
My opinion of the coin in hand is that the obverse is rock solid no problem VF20 with a great look.
On the reverse the area of the eagles head/neck and left wing look slightly suspect/wiped/cleaned. F15
PCGS results: Genuine (92 - Cleaned)
Do I think it will end up slabbed - Yes. F15 on an average day and VF 20 on a good day.
I'll try again in a few months.

Thanks for all the comments and Yes, I'm tickled to death with the coin!!!image

VF-30? Way to go on buying raw gold on eBay, I'm not sure I'd ever be confident enough.
  • Looks like a Fine-15 to me...maybe VF-20, but more likely the former.

I like it as a F15....and I can't believe you took a chance on such a crappy pic! The coin looks so much better in the Truview! Nicely done

I'm going to guess that the coin came back in a PCGS Genuine holder -- because of cleaning.

As far as details, I would say it is a Fine-15.

Great coin, by the way. Congrats on owning a very important coin.

I am in the altered surfaces category as well. VF20 details.

  • Love the look of the coin. Like it has been around the block... CC gold is so so sexy... eventually I will get everything crossed over and get the Trueviews done.. They do great work.

Circulated gold is tough to grade, but I'm going to say F12.

F12. The reverse has too much wear to be graded any higher.

Nice addition CCG image I would grade it around F-15. Good luck with it at PCGS.

remind me to never trust pcgs trueview pictures as accurate.
something tells me the top pictures are what it would look like in hand
and the PCGS picture is what someone would use to maximize how much
they could get for it when selling... with the buyer being very disappointed
    when it arrived.
  • I think pcgs got it 100% right. I think its right where it should be genuine.

FC brings up a valid point. Which pic is more accurate regarding the color. The sellers pic or the truview. Or somewhere in between.

I'm amazed that CC gold purchased raw on ebay is genuine. What are the chances?

Anyway, I agree that the coin is cleaned and also that PCGS will eventually slab it in a regular holder. It's a low grade CC coin, you have to allow for some problems....

It has a beautiful color in trueview, nice coin!
  • That was cleaned

Looks F15. Nice pickup -- did you pay around melt for it?

Edit: Saw you posted the results. Try NGC! image

It's a much better date and I doubt he paid anywhere near melt for it.
