new designs on the dime and half dollar?

What stops the Director of the Mint from changing the designs on the dime and half dollar? These designs are more than 25 years old and don't need an act of Congress to change. Both of these designs are very tired and worn out.

The dime is too small (in terms of physical size) for anything other than a very simplistic design, which is why it's not a popular choice for this purpose. As for the half dollar, that hasn't been a regular circulating coin for many years, so the denomination is practically obsolete. However if they did decide to have new designs on the half dollar, I'd imagine it would be another premium-priced "collectors only" issue, not intended for general circulation.

I see the lack of design changes as a consequence of the dead president school of coin design. Can anyone name an ex-president who's been kicked off of a circulating coin design? I can't. It's all a political game now that our coins are covered with politicians. Can you imagine the uproar if someone tried to replace JFK? The Kennedys are still a political dynasty, and a move like that would be seen as an insult. If the mint director values his job, he'll keep Kennedy right where he is.

I wish we could get back to lady liberty.
  • They need to change all the designs of our coinage. Im sick of seeing people that did their jobs be put on coins for no reason, other than doing their jobs.

It makes no sense other than political motivations.

If Moy values his job, he should live up to his word and bring back the type of beautiful designs this nation once had.

It's a shame that they didn't do the state park concept (2010+) on the half rather than the quarter. A larger coin would allow for some nice designs. Supposedly, they will be issuing some larger "silver rounds" that match the quarters but it won't be the same.

American coinage is absolutely horrible design-wise. There is no art - even most of the state quarters were no more than committee designed advertisements, shoddily presented. As long as politically correct bureaucrats are responsible for coinage, we will have no art. What a bunch of morons who cannot come up with anything better than presidential images. They were just men, not gods. Cheers, RickO
