From the FUN auction, is it available? Yes!

jhdflajhdfla Posts: 3,030 ✭✭✭
Thursday evening, session 1, I was bidding on this coin when my Embarq service provider chose to drop out for about 30 seconds. Cosequently I was unable to bid any higher on a proof seated quarter (1875) that I really wanted. Here's a link to the coin Link

If anyone happens to know if it is available, please PM me, it was bought by a floor bidder, bidder #52. Many thanks if anyone is able to help me with this!

No offense; but, the coin went pretty high.

That being said, consider this post a friendly to the top.

    Looks like a sweet piece!

...perhaps you should Embarq upon finding a different provider? image

Yes, coins with super eye appeal tend to do that......

Thanks for the correct observation. I was prepared to go higher if Embarq hadn't flaked out at the crucial moment...

Although perhaps no consolation at the moment, I suspect you'll be able to buy that exact coin at a significant discount in the not too distant future. Honestly, I think the buyer is buried.

I don't think it was unreasonable at all...for that quality.

    Nice Coin.

Nice coin. I think the price may be a bit high, but if you were putting it into a collection where it would reside for 10 or 15 years, I think you would be much happier than someone who needed to move it in a year or two. Extra money for quality will never hurt you in the long run IMHO.

Did you contact Heritage to see if they might give you the contact info of the buyer?

I would hope that they wouldn't.

I am surprised by this comment from someone whose tag line says they collect 1858-1915 proofs. The eye appeal of these coins in 63-65 is all over the board. The ugly coins trade near the sheet (plus or minus). Eye appealing coins go much, much higher. The price seems reasonable (assuming the coin looks as good in hand). If you expect to pay near the sheet for Seated proofs, you will generally end up with non-eye-appealing coins.

To the OP - good luck finding it.

I don't think that's in the realm of possibility but maybe they'll broker a deal ??

Probably right. They might be willing to give jhdfla's contact info to the winner of the lot, though, in case they
might be willing to flip the coin.

Many years ago before internet bidding the same thing happened to me and I was outbid on a twenty center at Stacks. Stacks would not even pass on my contact info to the buyer. Of course that was Stacks, and not Heritage. I'm just hoping someone else was on the floor who reads this and knows who bidder #52 was, and lets him know he has a buyer for the coin. Of course, if it was bought by someone on the floor for his personal collection, then I'm SOL..
Anyways, thanks guys for bumping this.

I'd contact Heritage directly to see if they can work something out with the new owner as a dealer keeping identities hidden.

I have this afternoon as a last resort, but was not able to talk to anyone in person, had to leave a voice mail. We'll see what happens.

Received the coin today, thanks to Todd Imhof in the Auction department who worked out a deal for me with the buyer of the coin who was a most gracious gentleman to cut the coin loose at a very small premium over what he paid. I have only praise for the customer service at Heritage, this is not the first occasion they have demonstrated the kind of excellence which leaves the competition in the dust. Transparency in the auctions, outstanding customer service, and the excellent resource provided by the archives sets the standard AFAIC for the industry.

Overpaid? You bet I did, and to me it is worth it. I would have gone to this level had my ISP not flaked out on me during the live bidding. Sometimes you have to ignore the numerical grade on the holder and just go with the quality and eye appeal of the coin. I loved this coin in hand at the viewing, and I like it just as much today. I don't usually do the proofs in this series, there was just something about this coin...

So would I! Unfortunately I suck at taking coin pics, maybe I'll have to get someone to do it for me who's good with proofs.

Not surprised at all to hear Todd and Heritage took care of you like this. They are top notch! Congrats on your persistence.

John - Glad you got the coin. Heritage is a top drawer outfit, so I can't say I'm surprised. I don't even look at the other auctions. There's Heritage, and there's everybody else.
