Your opinions on my little rainy day project...

My scanner does OK with grey-toned circulated silver and stuff with patina or "skin". It fails miserably on proofs, brilliant flashy coins, or colorfully toned coins. You simply have to have a camera for that stuff, I know. I think I have "stretched the envelope" as far as possible with the scanner.
So I started playing with my camera again. It's an old Sony Mavica with the mini discs. It takes good outdoor pictures in natural sunlight but I never can seem to get indoor lighting correct.
It also shoots 15-second video clips, which I have only played with a little bit.
So I had an idea.
I was indoors when I shot this, so there's the lighting problem, but it was raining outside so I couldn't set up out there. Lighting is probably still my photographic Achilles heel.
Anyway, I had fun with this, and got a little practice on Windows Movie Maker. Let me know what you think. (Like does it play for you, is the audio level OK, etc.- I have no speakers here and crummy headphones).
My numismatic movie debut (30 sec.) A numismovie?
Here are the scans of the Peruvian medal (sorry- my first numismovie just happened to be a Darkside item). It mentions Agustín Gamarra. I love the small details on the battle scene- it's got a lot going on, like some thalers do. It's just a little bit smaller than a US silver dollar.

It will get better, your pics are certainly in the average crowd.
But, don't worry so are mine and 98% of the others on this board.
Pics to me are not that important. I like to hold 'em

I think it's time to update my camera. This old Mavica still works OK and might be fun to play around with, but having to initialize and finalize the discs each time I wanna get my pictures is a headache. I'd rather have something with a quick little card in it, like the wife's camera. Then I could maybe get a proper copystand and who knows, maybe figure out proper lighting one of these days.

BTW I bought a camera, and taken me a while to get used to it. It's fancier than my old one, but it's got its own limitations.
We miss the expeditions that you have written in the past (something like terrorizing the owner of your childhood home). Have you been on any others? Are you gainfully employed, maybe back with the resort? Your video is the beginnings of expanding this forum, maybe PCGS will have to rename it "U.S. Coin Forum at the Flicks". I'm sure they could come up with a catchier title.

No recent expeditions, no. Employed in a resort, yes. Not the same one I got laid off from last year, but the one I worked at from 1994-2001. Thanks.
what it looks like in hand versus the stills. .who knew the fields reflected so much light.
