I'd just say it's a 1887/6 and leave it at that.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
  • It looks as if the contrast or saturation has been adjusted on the photo. It apears to have alot of luster though. In my opinion it depends on how much of a premium you paid for the color. If you got it priced right then it looks like a nice small cresent, but nothing amazing for the year.

  • Not sure on a VAM or not, but I love the reverse.
  • Awesome reverse. 63 I would say due to hits and slightly weak obverse strike

Hey Bob! Your pretty good ! Not only did you get the grade right but it also has a star. This is a Battle creek ms-65* The coin looks much better in hand, take my word for it! And no I didn't "juice" the picture with contrast and saturation.
I just found out recently it was a Vam. Thanks for looking....Joe

I'm not necessarily surprised that NGC gave it a 65.....the clean reverse, luster and color certainly are high end.....but it sure seems a stretch to call the obverse 65 based on those marks/hits. But again a sweet reverse. image

  • IMO- I am sure you paid a premium for the "battle creek" . Its really to bad considering 1887 is very common with color and as far as color goes on this coin I dont see anything amazing. Looks to have very nice luster and the cresent is pretty but not worth what you paid. Just my opinion. If you didnt adjust the photo then you did an amazing job at capturing the luster on the coin. Very very nice photo IMO.

Thanks, but no I didn't pay all that much for this Battle Creek as I bought it before the popularity caught with it. And as far as the color..I think it looks amazing and ya know I was at the Santa Clara coin show and a dealer had the same coin, date and the same grade with a star graded by NGC, but not a Battle Creek. So I asked the man the price of this coin he had for sale? He says $2800.00, I say WOW that's a lot a doe, so I ask him ...What would ya give me for mine? He pulls out the gray sheet and says $150.00. Sometime these dealer kill me!image

Nice image I am glad you were able to get it and not pay all that much of a premium for the "battle creek" aspect. Its a very nice looking coin and the luster seems just booming. Generally when I see these battle creek morgans people seem to pay a HUGE premium for them although there is very little color. It looks like you were able to get both with this coin, Nice color and not a huge premium, very good pick up. I am a fan of morgans with complete coverage hence the reason I was a bit aprehensive about yours assuming you paid a large premium. The cresent appears to be very vivid with some nice colors-- very nice coin!
