Yes, the namesake for the river that runs on the west side of Manhattan and the large bay in Canada which in turn is the namesake for the Hudson Bay Company, one of the oldest commercial corporations in North America.

With so much history behind the company and at times considered the de facto government for a large part of North America it is such a pity to see that the modern incarnation of the HBC manifests itself as mostly unimpressive and mediocre retail outlets, such as "The Bay" and "Field's" stores in Canada.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

My little home town in New Jersey has a great Henry Hudson connection. He sailed up the Mullica River and found an island in the middle, with thousands upon thousands of nesting birds. It was brooding season and the eggs were a great and welcome delight for the sea ration starved sailors. They named it Eyren Hafen. In 1854 when the town was founded, the name was translated to Egg Harbor.

Today, the focus of the city has moved far from the river end, indeed even in the 19th century it became obvious the railroad would lead to more development, and the city built up toward that end of the land it occupied. For decades...we elected a Harbormaster, even though we had NO harbor. One time our Harbor master was the guest on Ive Got A Secret, that great old TV show from the fifties and sixties.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

The design on the Hudson commem. obverse never had much appeal for me, but that coin shows what luster and nice color can do! That is fantastic!!
