Do you have less respect for coin dealer Paul Hollis since he's on TV?

I'm watching Paul Hollis on Coin Shoppe on ShopNBC. Some of you may know him from Coin Vault on ShopAtHome Network. Mr. Hollis also recently ran for the ANA Board of Governors, but was unsuccessful in getting elected.

If you know of Paul Hollis, do you have less respect for him as a coin dealer and numismatist since he hawks coins on television?

  • It is late. Can I ask a question. Did he do anything special other than sell coins on television?

No, he's just trying to make a living.

However, since I caught him smokin' dope and shootin' heroin out back with that teenage hooker from down the street, he's been on my ___-list.

In this current economy is it easier or harder to sell folks these common widget coins? I wonder how those who bought the 2008-W/rev of 07 ASEs from those top dollar retailers are feeling now?

All I will say is this.If someone claims to be a serious numismatist and they are selling coins on tv I dont have a problem with that.Wouldnt vote for them to win a positon on the ANA board because I feel that the ANA connection would appear to the public to mean that the script they read from is completely truthful. While alot of the statements made are technically accurate such as the state quarters are a limited edition (of six hundred million) iMHO they are no where near being honest and truthful.I'm sure that most of you can think of dozens of statements that are made on tv coin shows that back up my position.

The boastful tone of his ads caused me to choose to not vote for him for the ANA Board of Governors.

    Yes

And his association with TV coin sales is the sole reason I did not vote for him.

A persons reputation, is earned by the years of service

to the coin industry. The integrity, knowledge, dependability

and honorable business activities, all play a part in ones earned

reputation. It is most difficult to separate a persons likability, from

ones business activities. What you do and how you do it, are really

the mirror of ones soul. When a majority of people judge the actions

of a person as admirable then that person makes the grade. On

the other hand, when a majority of people judge the actions of a

a person as lacking, then the person does not make the grade.

    Hey Jupitar, BIOYA!

My earlier post was made in jest.

Don't go gettin' cereal (serious) on me.

I was thinking of his coin sales, but this got me thinking. He's had a number of people behind his past campaigns, including John Albanese, Jeff Garrett, Paul Montgomery and Douglas Winter. Those are some pretty good endorsements.

Until i saw the u-tube video i was not even sure who Paul was. He sure acted goofy at times on the coin vault. I thought he was on something. While i will say TV coin salespeople are not high on my list of ethical people they are no worse than the bulk of the coin dealers. While the coins they sell on TV are over priced at least the bulk are graded moderns and not doctored, polished or cleaned. Silver, gold and plat. dipped state quarters is a bit much for me other people want them.

I would vote for Chambers and that other guy that thinks he is funny and has his own show. Why not, how can they do any worse of a job. They may even be good f or the hobby.

  • How about a physician who is on TV. Dentists are on 24/7 here with the new implant techniques which make life possible for those who were full dentures. One guy does all the work on you in one day. You go in with no teeth, full dentures, and leave with full dentures implanted fixed into bone. Damn miracle.

90% of dentists can not do this procedure. So my point is it depends on his price and skills.

    TV makes no difference.
