I just picked up this 1862 Seated Liberty Dollar from my local coin shop yesterday. I have bought many coins from them in the past and was pretty excited when they pulled out this one. I have a "buy back" guarantee from them that it will slab at PCGS and I would like to do a "thread give-away" with my fellow forum members making a stab at what you think it might grade and share any comments/feedback based on the many images below....

Once the coin is back from PCGS, and of course as long as it slabs at a given grade, I will take all of those who are correct and place your names in a hat for a drawing. The ultimate winner will receive an unsearched roll of Lincoln various date circulated Wheat pennies which will date from 1909-1939.

So c'mon folks, Guess what it might grade and feedback/comments welcome on this tough Civil War date 1862 Seated Dollar???

AU-50 with a shot at AU-53. Real nice coin, and I would have bought it also. Congratulations, Dizzy!

I am not offering an opinion as to originality on this one without seeing it in hand. If in fact the coin is original- it likely has an interesting history as it looks as if it was stored in leather pouch of some sort over an extended period of time

wow...based on the guesses here, I would love to buy raw seated material from a bunch of you

based on the pics... either an AU55, a Genuine/Altered Surfaces or a Genuine/Cleaned

the Obv has all the meat with little sign of wear...but the surfaces look a bit off to me...could just be the pics

the Rev has better looking surfaces to me but there seems to be some weakness in the strike

(somehow I think the coin looks better than the pics show or you wouldn't be so excited about it

)
